Anotirian

The Lost Ones

Mama says not to welcome our new neighbor like we normally do. I don't know why she won't even let me play near the building anymore. But I've been naughty, Diary, I confess. I sneaked over just to see why Mama's so afraid.   She's beautiful!   Our new neighbor is beautiful and I think Mama's just jealous. Miss Arachte (she helped me spell it on a scrap of parchment) has long white hair even though I'm certain she's younger than Mama. And her eyes are weird! I've seen mages with gold eyes, but not like hers. And she's got a wickedly long scar. Miss Arachte showed me when I asked about the one on her face.   Anyways, you and I must part for the night. My candle runs low and soon it will be too dark to find my inkwell. Tomorrow I'm going to make a proper welcoming pie for her.   Fools Among Men: The Scandalous History of the Lost Ones, Sceithla Maros
Anotirians, called the Lost Ones by most of humanity, are a volatile mixture of the deities and mortals condensed into a living being. They are not immortal, as their divine parentage is, but they are significantly harder to kill than most peoples.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Anotirians are, for the most part, humanoid in shape. The number of limbs, eyes, and other anatomical mysteries varies according to their divine parentage, though it is uncommon for those that share it to appear the same as well.   They are generally identified by their eyes, which have black sclera and can be any colour though often taken to an extreme, and those who have extra limbs such as another set of arms or wings are often ostracized more than the others. Few have tails, primarily those whose mortal parentage is a Tiefling, and fewer still have odd lower limbs - clawed, hooves, etc..

Genetics and Reproduction

Generally following their mortal heritage, Anotirians mature at a slower rate that what would be considered normal. A fair number of the species is sterile, being hybrids, but there are also recorded cases of adults marrying and carrying on their lineage.   Pregnancy, for those capable, is an arduous process, with a higher chance of miscarriage despite precautions taken. It is generally recommended that they start bed rest as soon as possible once the fetus begins to develop signs of life.

Growth Rate & Stages

Anotirians grow and mature slowly for most of their lives, and often live to twice the expected lifespan of their mortal counterpart.   Infancy and Childhood As children, Anotirians are generally incapable of taking care of themselves, though they are ravenous and constantly growing. This stage, unlike the others, is the quickest, with children learning to walk first, then speak.   Adolescence Once Anotirians hit adolescence, the growth process slows dramatically. This is generally when feathers molt, if the individual is winged, along with the beginnings of puberty, which generally starts between 10 and 16 years old.   Adulthood Most individuals are fully mature between 26 and 30 years old, depending on parentage. Any extrasensory abilities, if present, are strongest at this stage.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Anotirians require a diet heavier in protein and iron than most other species, though it is highly debated if this is from their divine parentage or just an effect of their extra abilities.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

All Anotirians develop black sclera at about the same time their eyes change to their adult coloring, which is vibrant and often unnatural to mortal parents.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Anotirians are spread across the continents. The population is slightly higher in Skoyyae, due to the refugee cities, but they tend to make up less than 1% of the population as a whole.

Average Intelligence

Incredibly intelligent depending on mortal and divine parentage, Anotirians are well-rounded individuals with a predisposition to picking up new skills quickly and efficiently.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Anotirians, while far more sensitive to magic than others, have generally average senses according to their mortal parentage. Several separate cases have been recorded where the subject developed things such as telepathy, pyrokinesis, or levitation early in life, but this phenomena has grown rarer in the current century.
