Vampires

Vampires permeate through the land of Urina. Some are loyal to the progenitor, Queen Carmilla, but others hold centuries-long disdain for their creator.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Can be of any base humanoid race.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Vampires do not subscribe to the social norms of mortal humanoid races. Because of this, vampires are generally equal among men and women. Vampires also mostly make decisions based on their desires and predator instincts, and as such, they tend to choose the most stoic and sensible person to lead them. In the case of the Von Krolocks, Count Jericho von Krolock leads the vampires of the provinces of Krolock, and because his son, Herbert, is too emotional and impulsive to lead, the status of heir skipped a generation and fell on to Wyrd's shoulders.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most reside in the province of Krolock, but some reside in the city of Rablonia due to its lack of sunlight.

Average Intelligence

Generally the same as other humanoid races.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The vampires of Krolock, The Cult of the Crimson Witch

Courtship Ideals

The vast majority of vampires believe that lovers should follow their hearts and marry who they please. Vampires are heavily against arranged marriages.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Vampires speak the languages they knew as mortals.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The most prominent of vampire customs is the Mitternacht Ball: a celebration of new blood being added to a vampiric clan or family. The most popular type of Mitternacht Ball is for marriages, but this can also generally be used for somebody who wishes to join the night even without romantic contexts.

History

5000 years before the current day, there was once a mortal queen known as Queen Carmilla. During the Urinian Feudal period, she was a cruel woman who exploited her serfs by torturing them, killing them, bathing in their blood to preserve her youth, and paying their families mere copper pieces whenever they completed work and exported crops. As punishment for her misdeeds, the goddess Akaris descended upon her and cursed Queen Carmilla to roam the material plane for eternity with deep, insatiable hunger for human blood.    (Taken from Count Krolock's article) Five centuries ago, Albrecht, the eldest son of Count Jericho von Krolock, was murdered by Queen Carmilla. His senseless murder was committed on his twenty-first birthday at an extravagant ball held by his father. His death was a result of Jericho refusing to become her immortal servant at the cost of his sons. He and his wife were subsequently forced to turn. Jericho's remaining son, Herbert, was turned after Beatrice found him barely clinging to life.   Before the First Wild Hunt, the Krolocks fled to their ancestral home in the Eiskrone Mountains. Beatrice was killed by Cadurn the Gold, and the grief-stricken Jericho signed the Hunt Pact: a decree for vampires to fight alongside humans in any future wild hunts.    During the Hunt, Count Krolock alongside the ancestors of Laurent and Fenrir fought side by side to put Carmilla into a dormancy. The dormancy materialized as the three Daggers of the Crimson Witch. (Vael Dwo is known to be in possession of one of the daggers.)   Ever since the first Wild Hunt, there has been a rift in vampiric society. One side strives to bring back the progenitor, and the other does everything in its power to prevent this.
