Aetheray

An Aetheray is a titanic flying creature, with strong magical abilities. Little is known about them, being difficult to observe enough to study. They are seen as portents of prophecy, omens of doom or forces of nature. They are huge, growing larger than most buildings. Most are observes flying serenely high in the clouds like giant graceful fish.

Legends from various cultures tell of heroes who would slay an aetheray as a feat of strength or to lift a curse. An aetheray is a near-impossible foe. The first hurtle a would-be slayer would have to overcome would be reaching the beast. Aetherays fly higher than any weapon can reach and faster than an arrow. The next problem is its sheer size. The largest aetherays are the size of a fortress and very nearly as defensible. Their skin can be up to several feet thick. And if someone manages to get this far, aetherays can command powerful magic, creating hurricanes or earthquakes when riled. Thankfully, aetherays are docile, content to remain distant enigmas.
