Scottsdale

When the northwest of Scottsdale was discovered by the people of Oshatan, they thought they had uncovered a pastoral paradise. Wide-open plains to raise livestock in were highly sought after as Oshatan was currently in the process of quelling rebellion amongst the northern territories. Scottsdale was promoted as the new breadbasket of the Oshatan Republic. The mass migration of prospective homesteaders created a stable community of small towns given free licence to expand under the watchful eye of Oshatan. The occupying force of Oshatan was kept light as politicians and military leaders viewed Scottsdale as a safe hub, more under threat from its northern neighbour than any domestic threat. However, the leaders of Oshatan had failed to account for one thing. Scottsdale was not an untouched paradise of riches waiting to be explored. Scottsdale contained ancient factions who had noticed that their peaceful existence had been threatened by the arrival of outsiders. Frontier towns spread superstition of the forest folk. Many feared to travel alone, lest they kidnapped or entranced.    Meanwhile, another threat faced the warships of Oshatan that remained in the area. The iron behemoths found themselves beset by strange creatures. Occasionally, a warship would limp onto land but more often it would be lost to the Deep below. Those who survived spoke of dragons, creatures long since turned into myths and ghosts. Soon, however, it would be clear that these threats would need to be negotiated with. First it would be the Fey and their Autumn Prince who would announce themselves. In the year 1805, the firstborn daughter of presidential candidate Susan Morrow was ensnared by the Fey Prince. It is unclear whether the young Katherine Morrow went willingly or was taken, it was almost immaterial. What the Fey claim, the Fey keep. It was this event that brought Susan Morrow to the negotiating table. Before the people even had the chance to inaugurate her, Susan Morrow struck a deal on behalf of Oshatan. The Fey could keep their forests, all Oshatan needed was the open sky. Feeling confident, the Autumn Prince agreed. After all, Oshatan could hardly corral the sky. The Autumn Prince would grow to regret this political action as one of his greatest mistakes as cacophonous warships despoiled the sky with their soot-black chimneys.    The next group to reveal themselves were the children of the Dragon Mother. In the southwestern region of Scottsdale, the dragonborn of the Four Cities and their chromatic masters had existed since the days of the Calamity. A compromise would have to be made. Military leaders such as Thorn Silvertalon met with the four God-Queens: the White, the Red, the Green, and the Blue. While compromise was seen as ill-fitting of these divine leaders, an Armistice was achieved. Dragons and warships could inhabit the sky in equal measure in Scottsdale. People of the Four Cities would enjoy free travel across the Oshatan Republic but would continue to refuse outsiders entry into the city. One more alliance was struck. The people of the Dragon Cities would assist with the quelling of northern rebellions in exchange for generous trade agreements. Thus this conflict came to be known as the Dragon Wars of 1806-1811.   So, Scottsdale was born. A land of dualities and compromises. Scottsdale has always enjoyed a conditional peace. However, the ancient powers of the Fey and the Dragons have seen their influence wane in the ongoing years as Oshatan has come to span the globe and conquered all worlds before them. It is unclear when the peace will end and who will make the first move but when it occurs, paradise may be lost.
