Undearth

Undearth is a man-made subterreanan world. It continually expands as humanity dig further down. The reasons as to why humanity are digging down are not known by those digging. There are many stories, many rumours of plagues, deamons, magic that forced the ancestors to take the drastic decision to burrow civilisation down into the ground. All everyone knows is that they must not return to the surface. Those brave few who have ventured back have never been seen again. The people of Undearth don't know much about their world, but they know they have to keep moving Down.
The colony of Undearth consists of metal huts and large metal boxes with vehicle like suspension and wheels in order for them to more easily travel down with the miners. The homes have hooks and chains all over them to attach them to the ground and walls of the rocky underground.
When the first miners began their descent, they knew they would need sunlight to survive underground. So they installed a window to the surface, a large glass tube, 20 foot in diameter that funnels light down from the surface. This is known as the Column. As the people dig further down they must also continue to extend the column to follow them. It does not provide much light, but enough to keep crops growing.

Geography

The civilisation is digging further and further downwards. The landscape is rocky and extremely uneven. There are hooks, ropes, chains attached to the rock walls and sides to attach homes and people to without fear of falling. Cave ins are a huge fear for the inhabitants so there are a number of think metal plates installed above the colony in order to prevent rocks falling from above and destroying their huts. The settlement is built around the Light Column that exists in the centre. There are hundreds of large ceramic pots in different shapes and sizes, all with wheels and suspension to grow food.

Fauna & Flora

Plantlife is rare so far underground. Very occasionally miners will come across plants while digging and immediately take them to be researched to see if another source of food has been found. The plants currently known to grow in Undearth are:

Cave Thillows: Long yellow vines that tend to grow wrapped around large rocks. If you get tangled in a large clump it may be hard to escape.

Wyrmers: Single petalled red flowers with thick stems and small heads. Poisonous to eat but satisfying to admire.

Rock Shadow: Extremely large black weed that, in darkness could be mistaken for a large boulder. Many a miner has not been paying close enough attention and tried to stand on a Rock Shadow and fallen into a crack.

Animal life is even rarer than plantlife. The only known animal to exist in Undearth are Light Wyrms. Tiny, slimey, pale creatures with no legs or eyes. They have two small antenae and are attracted to the Light Column. One regular job for the Colony caretakers is to remove the Light Wyrms that have attached themselves to the column like barnacles. If a Light Wyrm is left on the Light Column for long enough it is said to glow a bright yellow colour.

Natural Resources

There are very little resources in Undearth. Only the Light Column as the main source of light. Over the years the miners have come across different water sources, small springs that they funnel into the colony ensure there is a source of running water that can be drunk.
