Scrap Republic of Gurzal

Authored by Monkeyheadfred.
Welded together initially with the carcasses of the great caravans, Gurzal is an orcish city known not only for its great feats of ramshackle engineering, but also its open doors. To those persecuted by the world outside, Gurzal is not just a city of scrap, but a newfound home.

Demographics

Gurzals growth is largely stimulated by the local population, though is additionally supplemented by a sizable percentage of migrants.   The great majority of the population in Gurzal work in industry, or the field of mechanics. To facilitate this abnormally large industrial population, the city also has a sizable education sector. When it comes to supplies such as clothes, food, or metal, long distance trading, as well as raiding is the most often utilized method.   Gurzals population is in the majority, orcish, and accounts for roughly 93% of the total sum. Outside of this demographic however are headstrong migrants. Dwarven forge workers, curious humans, brave goblins. Gurzal is open to most anyone with a work ethic, and a tolerance of Orc kind.   The population of Gurzal is 963.

Government

Gurzal ruled by a republic, a form of government where the citizens of Gurzal are given the opportunity to vote for representatives who make various decisions as to how the city should be lead. These representatives are also responsible for electing the highest authority of the city, the 'Scrap-King.' Many positions of power do not possess term limits, and often extend until the representatives ( or rulers ) death, retirement, or expulsion.    Currently, Gurzal is being lead by an Orc under the name "Grug", whom has benefited from a prosperous reign focused on external expansion, and internal advancement.

Defences

Defending the city from outside threats is the Gurzal roamers, a coalition of local militias, former soldiers, and wannabe bandits. The Gurzal Roamers utilize high speed vehicles forged from Orc Metal, as well as weapons typically associated with cavalry charges. Pikes, Lances, Spears, and sometimes crossbows.   As a secondary measure, and to keep out intruding animals and monsters, Gurzal also has a series of ditches preceding a thin wall of sheet metal welded together over generations.

Infrastructure

Gurzal, despite its appearance is incredibly developed. Not only does it possess clean drinking water, and plumbing provided through an underground network of piping. But the city also has the needed infrastructure to support education, advanced governance, and an industry centered around the construction of magical-vehicles.   Supplementing this industry is a field of metallurgy, where forges and smiths work a material colloquially known as 'orc metal'. This material does not require a complex forging process, and is done at one of the many metallurgy plants in the town, though the process of forging is incredibly resource intensive.

Points of interest

Gurzal is home to many locations of interest to the passer-by. Industry is the pride of the town, and this is reflected in all manners of life. From workplace, to residence, to leisure, OrcMetal, Orc-Engineering, and Orc-Ingenuity are seen everywhere you go. of the town locations in Gurzal, all are contained within a singular district known as "The Square". The Square is a ground-level platform which interconnects Gurzals many roads, and acts a central location for most businesses.

Silver-Tusk Brewery

Constructed in the shape of a large metallic spire, the SilverTusk Brewery ( also known as the 'Devils Horn' ) is a local brewery known for its recipe of dwarven ale. It's not a popular business in the eyes of the locals, though it supplies its fair share of alcohol to those willing to buy it. The building was formerly known as the Steel-Spire, and was once the site of a Ruin-Liquid extraction well, though when the well dried up, the Steel-Spire was abandoned, and later resold for its new purpose

Orc-Metallurgy Plant

The Metallurgy plant is absolutely massive, spanning a strip of land typically dedicated to three or more buildings. It's forged from thick sheets of Orc-Metal, without rust, and polished to a shine.   Within its walls work hundreds of forges and smiths, constantly smelting and smithing lengthy rows of white-hot molten metal   The inner conditions of the plant are nigh-inhospitable, a sweltering furnace devoid of humidity. To the local forges however, it is a home away from home, where the mind fades to make way for the work.

Rustbucket Factory

The Rustbucket factory has existed under many different names, and has had many different owners over the years. Though the fruits of its labour have never once changed. The Rustbucket factory makes vehicles. It makes cars, it makes tanks, it makes bikes, and it makes trains. If it moves, and is made of metal, the factory has forged two of its kind. Although the factory has never been without its problems, calamity has recently struck as the towns local source of Ruin-Liquid, ( a mysterious fluid with magical properties ), has recently run dry, making vehicles all the more difficult to produce, as well as fuel.

The Spotted Demon Tavern

Helmed by a human-woman of ill-repute but excessive influence, the Spotted-Demon-Tavern is a house of ale, a bed for the weary, and a home for the criminal-kin. Not only does the Spotted-Demon allow the illicit activities of thieves, con-artists and fences to operate within its walls, it encourages this behavior through a system of local credit. To the local "big spenders" are high-quality rooms, plentiful drink, and plentiful-service. Truly, a thieves best home-fromhome.

Uloth's Repairhouse

Uloth's Repairhouse is little more than a private domicile turned workshop. It's a place of good-rapport, but simple work. It's not often that conflict sparks over Uloth's repairhouse, as usually an Insult to the kind Uloth is an insult to all who surround them. For this reason, the place has come to be not only a profitable, and useful business, but a pillar of the local community.

Lowbar Chopshop

Nestled in the shady corners, and formed from a patchwork of many lesser residences, the Lowbar Chopshop is a illreputed garage ran by local criminals, vehicle-thieves seeking a quick profit by gutting local transport and selling the scrap. The chopshop has suffered raids by the ruling powers in the past, though when one shop it taken down, another two operations spring up to take its place.
