Umbriel was once inhabited by an ancient, yet very advanced race called the Thay, who built great cities across the surface of the world. It is believed the Thay were defeated by another race, known as the U'uulions. After this defeat, the Thay retreated underground, leaving behind their technology and knowledge.
The Thay left behind many artifacts and ruins scattered across the planet. Many of these have been found over the last few centuries, but there are still many more out there waiting to be discovered.
Many people believe that the Thay civilization was destroyed by the U'uulions, but others think that the Thay simply moved on to someplace else.
