Bastard Son to the King

Sir Varius Fitzroy

Varius Fitzroy is the illegitimate son to the king of the Delacroix kingdom of Auferetu. Despite being the eldest of the king's two sons, due to illegitimacy, his younger brother would succeed the throne.   At some point in time, perhaps caused by an argument with a friend, Varius took over the Faulkners' district and the resulting gang. He is suspected of having played a role in the The Gladius Estate Travesty, as falcon feather that matched the district's signature would found in the woods surrounding the Estate property. While he has made a public statement denouncing any ties to the Travesty, he has yet to provide evidence otherwise.

I've Got You

In a scene with an unknown context, Varius shows his true colors. While it has no place in the current story line up, I felt it was important to know about, and hope to make it as it's own short comic.
"It's okay dear, this exercise is to help you train your balance even in this state. I won't let you fall, I've got you."   Varius stood on one end of a short tight rope that bridged the Faulkner HQ buildings three stories up. At the other end was his fiancé, a pretty young woman with a belly that was about to pop, she refused to let go of her grip on the railing beside her.   "I don't know dear, what if I slip? What would happen to the baby," the ground looked so far away from this perspective, and she adjusted her grip.   "Look at me, my love," he tilted her head up, "Don't you trust me?"   The guilt and shame on those words hit like a punch, worse than any fall could be in her mind.   "I-," a shaky grip onto his coat, "I trust you. I trust you so much and I know you wouldn't let anything hurt me."   She was off, slow steps onto the rope, a death grip on the love of her life's arms. Minutes passed before she made it to the other end, and tearfully fell into his arms. He murmured into her ear, words no one else could make out, but she closer her eyes and smiled into him.   "I am very proud of you, my love. You know I would not insist that you did something without there first being a good reason for it. This is good for us, trust me."   Varius wiped the tears from her face with a soft look, one the did not fit the rough style of his life, or his love. With every touch the young girl leaned in more, before the scene was broken with an abrupt sweep. Varius watched by as the ladies of Faulkners' pushed her back to the rope, in that moment she hesitated, and looked back for help.   When it became obvious that he had no intention in putting an end to the treatment, she shakily stepped back onto the rope, teetering on the ledge of the roof.   "You did it once with my help dear, my quest was that you complete it on your own. There is not a doubt in my mind that you could not achieve this once more, you already know how to balance yourself. One more time there and back, and you'll be safe in my arms once more."   The young girl nodded in silence, and made her journey across the rope, alone. The first trip took seven minutes, give or take, as all of her focus was in balance. When she made it back into solid roof her heart sank, if she wanted to reunite in the arms of comfort sooner rather than later, she must make the trip back over the rope.   It was a dangerous game, the first success was because she could count on Varius to help her regain her balance and move smoothly. The second one took far longer, and the struggles she faced alone put a tax on her body. She worried about the health of her baby, but being away from him was a special kind of agony, she had grown addicted to it.   She was halfway across once more when she made the mistake of looking down and fear froze her in place, "Baby, baby I can't do this."   Varius sighed, "Of course you can," and approached the edge of the roof, a hand outstretched for her.   "You need to have faith in yourself if we're going to make this work out, I can't always be here at your side."   Relief washed over her, the fear disappeared into excitement and she ran across the rope. The moment she made it to the end they embraced, her face buried into his chest again while he looked over the ledge. A knock at the roof door broke the illusion before them, and when it opened an older gruff man walked out, a single sheet of paper in his hands.   "Sir, if I may," the man motioned with the paper toward the young girl, who was obvlivious to his presence.   "The results are back, and I'm afraid you will not like the news."   The young mother-to-be looked up, "What is his talking about, results? What results," she pushed away from him, "Did you test me without my knowledge?"   Varius ignored her and put his attention to the man, "and what of it?"   "It would seem that, she has not be entirely dedicated at the start," he shuffled the single paper, along with his feet.   The wind howled, no one moved, it was as if the whole scene was frozen in time, and it stayed like this for minutes. The young girl shifted and held onto Varius' arms tightly, panic visible in her eyes.   "He's a liar! I would never do anything to damage our love, even when we first met," tears threatened to spill over, her face beet red.   It took him a moment, perhaps of self-composure, or deciding how to react to the news that was broken to him. When he did finally react, it was nothing short of a surprise. He cooed at her cries, wiped away her tears, and pulled her back into him. A soothing voice told her to calm down, don't fret, it will all be okay.   "I forgive you my dear, if this baby is not mine it will be fine, for your unconditional love is all that I need," he rocked side-to-side.   "I'm so sorry," her sobs broke through, "we had barely met and I wasn't sure how I felt I would never do this now, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I would never I love you-"   She blathered like a child, words barely made sense through the tears and blubbering. Yet he held her tightly, and his grip only get stronger.   "I forgive you dear," he rocked forward a step, "Everything's going to be alright. Do you trust me?"   She did not hesitate to answer, pulling away and looking deep into his eyes, "I trust you, I trust you will my life, with our baby, with every passing second and ounce of love I trust you."   "Good," he straightened and set her at arms length, "Remember dear, I've got you."   She nodded through the tears, a small sigh of relief washed over her as she relaxed. Just before he forced her backwards, she didn't scream or yell and make any noise, save for the loud crunch when she hit the ground.   Varius turned to the man and the remaining Faulkners' crew, "Someone deal with that, I don't have the heart."   Soon everyone dispersed, off to make quick work of the body and the scene, or to attend to their leader as he lamented the betrayal of his heart.
