The Iron Sun

Summary

A long time ago, before the dawn of the world as we know it, there was nothing. Only empty void dominated space itself and even time was not yet real, so none can say how long this lasted. From nothingness, a god came into being. Its name was Solus, and with its presence the universe formed. Land, sea, and air all were created at Solus' will. His creations, however, were not enough to satisfy him. From his longing for companionship, along with his own essence, the goddess Nil was formed, a companion to rule beside him. They had many children together, populating the world with gods and goddesses, but still Solus was not satisfied. His world was cold, dark, and empty. Taking all the iron he could find across the land, he formed a ball at the center of his world, intending to use it to bring light and joy to all of the universe. Taking hold of his power, Solus poured more of his essence into the sphere, igniting it and bringing light to the world. However, the glorious, unending light he had imagined was not meant to be. His own daughter, Locke, wanted darkness to remain almighty across the land. Taking a dagger, Locke plunged it into Solus' back. Solus was determined to finish his sun but the pain of Locke's betrayal was too much to bear. As his power left him, his sun was left weak, only able to light part of the world and unable to bring joy to all as he had once hoped. With his final breath of power and with a heavy heart, Solus cursed Locke with the darkness she so loved. Her beautiful visage blackened with shadow and she was forced from the place of the gods, cursed to forever inhabit the darkness she had forced upon the world. To this day, Locke lives in darkness, far from the light of the world. Solus still dwells in the land, his scattered essence a form mortals cannot hope to understand. Some day he will return with glory to finish his iron sun and bring light to all the world, but the time of this event is known only to him.
