The Republic of Athovezia

The Republic of Athovezia is a country bordering Vaekul to the north, Taruki to the west, and Lonka to the southeast. It´s known for its persistent neutrality, avoiding conflicts for better or for worse. Its relatively low population consists primarily of subsistence farmers forming insular agricultural communities. Although it lags behind its neighbors in scientific advancement, it remains resistant to foreign offers of industrialized trade.

Structure

Athovezia is a representative republic with 354 senate seats elected by their respective districts every six years. Its current leader, Tippid Falkner, has been in power for three terms and is expected to stay at least six more years, as there is no term limit.
While all Athovezian settlements have agreed to statehood, their collective federal government is rather small, and legislative oversight is a point of contention between various communities. Federal authority lies almost exclusively within the realm of national defense and foreign relations with the responsibilities of education, healthcare, nutrition, and other community needs being handled by the individual town governments.

As an agricultural society, Athovezian culture places significant value on nature. It resists industrialization and levies strict penalties on environmental recklessness.

Assets

While Athovezia is a relatively poor nation, owing to its general disinterest in scientific advancement, its arguably the most food-rich country on the continent. Nearly all of its many agricultural communities are completely self-sufficient, and the problem of hunger is practically nonexistent. Over 90% of its territory is covered by the unyielding Gratiyul Rainforest, whose bizarre flora provide the vast majority of the nation's assets.

History

Aside from Taisha, Athovezia is home to the oldest autonomous settlements on the continent. While the Gratiyul can be unforgiving, it yields a bounty of resources to those with the expertise, and it provides a dense layer of protection against conquering forces. In 1304 AD, a number of independent townships agreed to form the Athovezian republic after a series of Vaeic military incursions. While these hostile efforts failed, they highlighted the need for cooperation and coordination between otherwise isolated communities.
