Taisha

Taisha is the sovereign city-state of the gods, centered around the largest anchor to the Engine of the Universe on the planet. As the oldest known city in existence, Taisha has a unique place in the geopolitical landscape of the region. Topside, it sits securely in the Kirxis mountain range, surrounded by the bizarrely non-Euclidean Aistris river, whose raging currents provide a nearly impenetrable barrier to invading forces. Its Underside compliment is less fortified, sprawling into a spiderweb of suburbs.   Aside from the gods, it is populated and ruled predominantly by the sziira people. Its Underside suburbs are known as a safe haven for Aberrations fleeing persecution and criminals evading the law.

Structure

The Divine Court is the top authority in Taisha. These seven seats are exclusive to the gods, and their occupants are decided in secret every fifty years. Below that sits the High Counsel, a senate that manages the more mundane responsibilities of government. These are elected positions held primarily by humans and lesser gods who have the stomach for bureaucracy.

Assets

The city of Taisha sits on the largest known anchor to the Engine of the Universe in existence. It benefits from a near-infinite supply of energy, which it sells to neighboring countries.

History

Taisha is the oldest known settlement in existence, formed by the gods at the start of creation. It has always protected the Prime Anchor and maintained the Library of the Interior. The city has changed leadership many times as gods war among themselves, but it has always remained in divine hands.   Taisha has always been a haven for Sziira, as their power impresses the gods more so than those without.

Territories

Taisha occupies the island of crags created by the raging, non-Euclidean Aistris currents as well as the network of small settlements suspended above and the Underside suburbs below.

Military

Throughout most of history, Taisha hasn't needed a standing military, as most of the security is maintained by the gods. During the occasional skirmish too insignificant to catch a god's attention, defense falls on their police force, the High Guard.   However, with the coupling of rising foreign tensions and rapid technological advancement, the Taishan government has increased recruitment efforts for the High Guard. They have begun hiring for more formal military positions as well as for the newly created Department of Technological Development.

Religion

Despite being the city of the gods, Taisha has no official state religion. Because most of the gods maintain separate religions from each other, it was decided in the year 305 AD that there should be a separation of church and state so that every god can feel free to be worshiped in the way they please.

Foreign Relations

Taisha has always had a tenuous relationship with its neighbors. With its wealth in energy, the location is sought after by practically everyone. No mortal government has been able to seize the city, although many have tried.   Currently, Taisha is only bordered by two nations: Mayalia and Vaek. While the Mayalians sate their desire with trade, the Vaeka are less content. Conflicts have been escalating over the last few decades, involving bitter trade disputes and few a border skirmishes. Unprecedented technological advancement on all sides has raised concern over the stability of Taisha's position and whether the gods would be able to defend their borders if their enemies conspired with outcast gods or powerful Aberrations.   Mayalia has expressed no interest in seizing the territory. Whereas both Taisha and Vaek sit on an expanse of jagged cliffs and mountains, Mayalia enjoys a vast horizon of fertile farmland that stretches to the sea. Its powerful, export-based economy gets them what they want at low prices. This leaves their income dependent on their foreign relations for better or for worse. In recent times, they've found themselves in between the Taisha-Vaek conflict, being a strong trading partner of both. With each side asking for loyalty, the Mayalians have so far been skirting the middle.

Agriculture & Industry

As a mountain city-state, Taisha has very little capacity for agriculture. It depends on imports from its neighbor Mayalia for food and plant products as well as overseas imports. Its industry focuses heavily on the mining of Kingstone, the sale of energy, and the production of sziioric components.

Trade & Transport

Tashia depends on a series of railways that stretche across its cluster of peaks and burrow into the Underside. Transportation across the Aistris is limited, although advancing technology is expanding its capacity.
