Maegrum-Grimnir

Runefather of the Wittlin Magma Forge - The Verdant Hold Maegrum Grimnir (a.k.a. The Destroyer)

Maegrum-Grimnir, Runefather of the Verdant Hold, Prophet of the ash-storm migration.   Heroic of deed and stoic of nature, Maegrum was shunned by his father none the less. His brother, Umgaer, had always been the favoured son. Even his youngest brother, little Bedarg, who had not earned the renown Maegrum had yet still held a warmer place in their Fathers heart than Maegrum could ever hope to achieve. Although considered upbeat and optimistic by Dwarven culture, his father considered Maegrum cursed. Many would consider it a gift but Maegrum's Father saw his visions as a curse upon their family.   As Runefather of a lodge regularly battling against the forces of chaos and especially that of the trickster god. He could not let his clan know of Maegrum's affliction lest they believe him to be a pawn of Tzeentch.   Maegrum had on numerous occasions led his fathers forces in battle and proved to be both a mighty warrior and a cunning general. His Father however would go out of his way to rain praise upon his brother Umgaer and pass Maegrum's successes off as his own.   Even for a Dwarf as optimistic and cheerful as Maegrum Year upon year of this was tough to swallow. His blood and sweat had been given for the Hold many times and not once had he been given the recognition he had earned.   As with Fyreslayer tradition, if a Runeson can persuade other dwarves to follow him he can venture forth and start a Lodge of his own.   His dreams of late had been filled with visions of the realm of life and an old volcano covered in luscious vegetation, accessible by a realm gate here in the realm of metal. The only problem was the giant ash storm between them and the realm gate.   Seeking the help of the oldest Runesmiter in the holds assistance, they forged a rune of protection for all willing to travel to this new land. The promise of being made the new holds Runemaster was enough to light a fire in the grizzled old Fyreslayer.   Relying on his success in battle and honourable reputation, Maegrum was able to persuade several Fyreslayer families to join him in journeying to a new land. He “forgot” to mention how he had discovered it.   The journey was tough and despite the power of the rune of protection, the terrible conditions took more than one dwarfs life along the journey. No time was able to be given to administer the last rights upon the lost Fyreslayers and were left where they fell.   Eventually, after days of battling through the Ash storm, they made it to the promised destination. The Realmgate was exactly where Maegrum had foresaw it and although horrified at the cost of life it took to reach the realmgate, the adventurous host were overjoyed that it was not for nothing.   Buoyed by his success Maegrum led the scouting force through the realmgate personally. Entering through the gate, giant rune axe in hand, Maegrum was transported to the final destination. The Verdant Hold lived up to expectations and more. It appeared to be an ancient Magma hold from the times before the age of Chaos. Abandoned for what reason he could not say but the strength of its walls, the heat from its magma forge and the bustling life growing around it was more impressive than even that of the hold of his Father.   For 300 years Maegrum has ruled as Runefather of the Verdant hold. He has watched as his people have helped expand the territory around the hold, claiming a land known to the locals as Witlin. New generations have been born and earned places within their society. His Son, Durnim Anvilheart has grown into a mighty warrior and a proud Commander within the Witlin Lodges Forces.   However, not all is well in the lands of Witlin. Daemons, Undead and rat people cause havoc amongst. The greed of the humans has not gone without notice either. And the desire for Maegrum to discover the secrets of the abandoned Dwarven monuments and holdings across the lands leads him ever into conflict with those who would deny him.   What Maegrum is not able to solve with trade and bargaining, the Axes of the Verdant hold do.
