Tzeraan

Created by

Tzeraan was a fortuitous planet to find. Slightly larger than the Earth, it nonetheless has a temperate earth-like climate. Even stranger despite it's size, Tzeraan has a significantly lower gravity than the earth. This has led to large floating islands where lighter-than-air gasses trapped in plants keep the islands aloft, while long vineing plants keep the islands tethered to their place. Glorious waterfalls cascade off the islands to the land below, a chaotic network of rocky crags and exposed cave systems. Tzeraan is a planet of wonders and secrets.

Two centuries ago, a ship of the Terran Colonial Initiative landed on Tzeraan after an accident caused them to lose over half their colonists. This has led to a human settlement on the floating islands with an uneven set of technological development: while there are excellent photo-voltaic cells and functional, if large, computers; clothes and tools are made by hand and medicine has reverted to an unscientific herbalism. Furthermore, an authoritarian regime has come to suppress all memories of Earth and rumors of intelligent natives in the caves below. All strange occurrences are investigated and disappeared by a powerful Inquisition with the power to render summary judgement and execution. Humanity struggles to survive and flourish on this strange miraculous world.

However, human freedom has not been entirely suppressed. Outlaws live in the shadows below the islands raiding merchant airships, trading in contraband technologies and Earth-relics, and subsisting on the cave fungus. Furthermore, a secret organization called the Four has infiltrated much of human society. Like the inquisition they investigate strange happenings, but for learning and profit not to suppress them. Unfortunately, sometimes those investigations unmoor the minds of simple humans. There is a heretical saying on Tzeraan, "The future is in the past, and our past is our future." But it remains to be seen if the people of Tzeraan will remain ignorant or take their place in the wider universe.
