Aiatali's Rest

The Land of Perpetual Darkness

It's said in the time before the Shattering that the goddess Aiatali had a child, Aiyun, who was stolen from her. Aiatali's grief was so great that hear heart turned to ice. She banished the sun, and simply laid down and became part of the earth, refusing to wake until her child was returned to her. It is for this reason, according to those who live in Kierastaad, that sunlight never touches The Frozen Wastes.

The Mountain that Moves

Visitors to the ice-bound fortress of Kierastaad are often surprised to see the mountains to the South rising and falling in a slow, undulating pattern. The locals assure them it's simply a trick of the light playing between the glaciers and the clouds, and that they only seem to be moving. Everyone knows mountains don't breathe.
