Session 12 (26. 09. 2018)

As morning came, Gunter’s absence was finally discovered. A fortunate scrying by Aella revealed that he was underground, tied up in a room. After Lia told everyone about her dream, the group decided that rescuing Gunter would be their priority. Having finished breakfast, they set out from the tavern.   Gunter came to in the underground room, tied to a chair. Soon, a blond half-elven man came to interrogate him, and didn’t believe his story about having visited an old friend of his. His belongings, including his new book, were taken. He attacked his captor, but was quickly put in his place by an ogre guard.   Above ground, Carthigan led the party on a chase for an orphan boy named Scrap. Having learned his usual haunt from some other urchins, the party settled in to wait near a bridge. They hadn’t waited long when a secret door opened under the bridge. As it soon began to close again, they rushed in and Fernando’s hat got caught in it. Not finding a way to open the door, they began their trek downwards, into the underground.   Not much later, they were intercepted by some guards as well as a horrible, smelly man: Rithmin, the self-professed “Prince of Rats”. They were taken to the Vendetta Sanctum, home base of the Resistance, which Carthigan and Aella had been cooperating with. The residents, however, seemed less than happy with the group. Carth and Aella were taken away to report, while the others were locked in the same room Gunter was in. They untied him, and exchanged news.   Carth and Aella met the half-elf, Leo, who chewed them out for failing to break the beardless dwarf out of the prison. He even threatened to have the group killed. Aella countered that if they were given a chance to break Drayfus out on their own, it couldn’t be tied to the Resistance, and if they got killed in the process, he’d be rid of them. They then mentioned the group’s half-baked plan to set the lightning beast free and use that as a distraction, much to the astonishment of Leo, who had only learned about the creature on the previous day. This prompted him to have Lia brought in for questioning, which led to further bafflement when she claimed to have learned about the creature in a dream.   In the end, the party was given free rein in the Sanctum, albeit with supervision. They could talk to people and ask for help, and stay until evening, when they’d be escorted out. Gunter marched into Leo’s office, revealed his true identity as Oscar Underbrook, son of the famous judge Abraham Underbrook, and demanded his book back. Leo handed it back, and expressed his wish to have a more civil conversation at some point. As none of the party witnessed this, he remained Gunter to them.
