Sedna

Scion of Dreams

“A young girl lies in her bed furs, staring up at the ceiling above. In the furs she feels warm, and her body is tired after a long day, and she slowly, slowly drifts off to sleep.   As her consciousness slips away and the comfortable emptiness takes her, the dreams of the world begin before her eyes. She sees a splendor of colors and patterns, of light and of dark, of life and death, and she sees before her the thread that connects her to the coming dawn.   Though she is not aware of it, the rest fills her with an unbreakable tranquility, an unshatterable stillness, and she in a single moment forever and ever. Until the sleep ends, and the world falls back on her.   She is awoken, it is her time to rise. And with the calmness of a rested soul, a grown woman gets up from her furs."   Grand Elder of Anguta's Rest - Dreamer

General Informations

Born in Winter, Sedna is the Scion of Dreams, Sleep, Stasis, Meditation, Tranquility, Solitude, Calm and Awakening. When a person drifts off to sleep, it is she who fills them with the necessary vigor to face the challenges of the coming day. It is she who brings a fighter up to his feet after suffering a near fatal blow, and who awakens the spark of hope and fury within them to keep up the assault. It is she who embraces the ones who have run out of their life, and lets their spirits dream of the secrets of the world.   Followers also see the sleep of Sedna as a metaphor for progress in life, or the coming of age of a person. A child might be considered sleeping until they are a prosperous adult, or someone without a grip on their life could be considered dreaming until they have gotten themselves together. Followers see no use in rushing the end result, or “awakening”, of such individuals, as they believe them to need the rest and relaxation of the sleep and dreaming.   Sedna herself is mostly abstract in her appearance, and is rarely depicted as a physical being. The loxodon of Kesh depict her as a mammoth-headed woman made from ice, looking down upon the land of her children. Her most common depiction, though, is that of a knot made from various shapes and lines, representing the wyrd patterns and images she reveals in one’s sleep.

Rites, Rituals and Holy Days

Worshippers of Sedna in Kesh believe that death is merely a sleep, and not necessarily an eternal one. The keshi loxodon bury their dead in honor of Sedna, in the frozen graveyard known as the Frigid Slumber. They believe that the dead are kept in a near-eternal sleep among their ancestors by the scion, and that she will awaken the countless loxodon warriors to fight in the final battle for the world, known as Noqatak. They consider the forceful awakening of their dead a great perversion of a spirit, as the soul is not to be disturbed until the upcoming battle.   Throughout the world Sedna is called upon to ease nightmares and calm minds of confused or even mad people. Each morning a devout of Sedna sends a prayer towards the awakened for their reinvigorated morning.

Tenets of Faith

  • Only the rested finds enough strength for upcoming difficulties.
  • Do not rush headfirst into danger, for only a calm mind can find solutions.
  • Do not fear the night, for each night has an awakening.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Sedna believes that every person needs their rest to reinvigorate the upcoming awakening. Her dreams help those that need it and guide those lost to find their place in this world. Only a calm mind can think clearly and she thinks that is not possible without rest. Take time for yourself and others to prepare. It will help to see a clearer future and guide you on your path.   Sedna has a deal with the other scions of death that Loxodon souls may be put to sleep instead of moving on to the judgement because in her dreams she saw a terrible war and they need to prepare for this uprising. For that she guides the culture of the Loxodon in Kesh with much care to put their dead to rest for an eternal sleep.
