On Death and Mortality
“ON DEATH AND MORTALITY. THE AMBIGOUS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KELEMVOR, MYSTRA AND THE GREATER GODS. Or, numerous arguments and musings on the judgement of souls after death, and the passions and humanity (or lack thereof) of the Gods we serve in life. A Death Knight’s observations from the divine battlefront.” is a religious treatise written by the Death Knight Commander Pax Ilvani of the Eternal Order.
The treatise was published in one of the most prominent journals for divine scholars in the Western Heartlands. In it, the author traced the possible philosophical debate between the various gods of death, their peers and their demigods. And he asked the obvious question:
Could not, in fact, the Gods themselves die and move on to THEIR next phase of existence? And could they not, themselves, cheat death?
This sparked a longstanding scholarly dispute and numerous follow ups by wizards, clerics and other scholars of the mortal and the divine, though no-one had any refutable arguments to provide against it.
The treatise became a staple of any reputable temple library and temple in the region, and Pax was invited near and far to present his arguments.
This gave him the opportunity to learn even more of local death cults and places of worship, and to hunt down those who cheated death.
