Jocelyn Cresthand
Master of the Keep
Do not be fooled by her beauty. The Master of the Keep at Soul's Rest is as tough as they come. Of noble birth, Jocelyn hails from Elturel, the capital of Elturgard. Her mother was a prominent member of the Hellriders, one of the most renowned and well-regarded military forces in the Realms. Jocelyn, however, answered the call of Kelemvor after her entire family died in a devastating fire ravishing the city in the year 1465 DR. Only some of her distant relations survived the tragic event.
With the Cresthand family holdings left in ruin, Pursifer Filch, the local chaplain of the Church of Kelemvor took her in as his assistant. He recognized that Kelemvor must have spared this child for a reason, that she had some purpose in life.
He tried to comfort her by explaining that death is only the next step in our eternal existence, and that Kelemvor is a fair judge of souls. The Church of Kelemvor believes that no one should die before their time or without reason, and that no one should cheat the natural order of death. The idea of mortal justice and Kelemvor's fair judgement of her family's place in the afterlife gave her the comfort to carry on.
Being of noble birth, Jocelyn had some martial training in her youth, and had shown a natural aptitude for the physical and mental rigours of knighthood. As she grew older, the chaplain wrote to the Grand Master of the Eternal Order, Gorstar Dundragon, asking him to take her in as a recruit. Her talents would serve Kelemvor better as a Knight than as a Chaplain or Doomguide.
As Gorstar Dundragon was familiar with the Cresthands and their exploits, he took her in without question. At Soul's Rest she trained with nobles and commoners alike from all over the Western Heartlands. As a young Death Knight, she was first paired up with the Berduskan Half-Elf Pax Ilvani on a quest to the Reaching Woods.
She quickly rose to the tasks given to her by the order, and is now one of the most senior of the Death Knights, commanding the vital maintenance and defense of their holdings at Soul's Rest. She takes a hands-on approach to the defenses, and is often seen leading patrols in the area.
Her family connections to the Hellriders and the powers that be in Elturgard to the west smoothes the precarious negotiations the order must endure with the High Observer of Torm. As the political situation in her homeland continue to concern her more and more each passing year, the choice to join the Eternal Order still seem the right one.
On special occasions she is seen wearing the traditional bright red colours of her family, making her stand out against the more sombre dark greys and blues of the order.Jocelyn at age 16, serving the Church of Kelemvor
