The Family of the Sixth Essentia

A group dedicated to the understanding, reverence, and study of the five Essentia. So-called in a metaphorical sense that the "sixth" essentia is that of knowledge. They have many educational facilities across Twinsun (though with fewer in the north), and provide free or affordable general education to the masses along with some mild indoctrination into a sort of earth-spirit-ey cult.
Ranks: 

1. Flagstone. The lowest rank, a kind of initiate to the Family. Most that work with the Family are at least inducted to this rank and given a basic education in the essential arts. Over eighty percent of Family members are Flagstones.
2. Carver. Those that seek further enlightenment about the essentia are quickly given Carver status after a trivial entrance exam. The name is meant to invoke the work of a sculptor or woodworker, cleaning the rough edges from their mind and achieving clarity. As Flagstones are largely not allowed entry to Family educational facilities, Carvers perform most of the manual labor and upkeep at those locations.
3. Knowlema. Once a Carver has completed two years of study at a Family institution, they graduate to the rank of Knowlema. Knowlema are granted access to the Family's vast resources for the purpose of scientific research into the nature of the essentia. Most researchers stay at this rank for most of their careers. 
4. Prelect. Members of the Family from any rank can become a Prelect if they show enough aptitude. Once a year, during the induction ceremony, one of the current Prolekts will test any number of willing entrants to see if they are worthy of Prelect status. If selected, the Prelects will have one year to produce a thesis about the nature of the essentia. If successful, they may retain their rank and are possible candidates for ascension to Prolekt.
5. Prolekt. Only fifty members of the Family at a time can become Prolekts. The position is a combination of overseer, mentor, and researcher, with all of the lower ranks reporting to them. The names of prominent Prolekts are recorded in the Hall of Essential Mages underneath the statue of the Gavern-Elect they served under.
6. Gavern-Elect. Once every five years, the current sitting Prolekts and their chosen Prelect ward convene to vote for a new Gavern-Elect. Often this is one of the sitting Prolekts, but there are several instances throughout the long history of the Family of complete outsiders being elected to the position. The Gavern-Elect is the leader of the Family, making all major decisions and aiding in the most dangerous and esoteric research. It also goes without saying that the Gavern-Elect is a vastly powerful mage of one kind or another, as their understanding of the essentia must be as innate as breathing.
