Athela Secedes

Founding

The region of Athela secedes from the Imperium and joins the Gracian Confederation.

Athela, the southwestern-most region of the Imperium, was heavily drawn upon for the Lost Crusade. With its demise, entire villages were wiped out and forever lost in the Underdark. Those who remained, having nothing left to lose, declared themselves to no longer be an Imperial holding. They looked west to the Gracian Confederation, an alliance of smaller kingdoms that had feuded with the Imperium in the past.   The Gracian Condeferation accepted Athela as a member, despite knowing what the Imperial response would be. While the Gracian Confederation wasn't nearly as powerful as the Imperium, it was capable of quickly mustering an army. It also worked to spread dissent and support further revolution, which would later prove very helpful.
