Taran the Uniter

God of Heroism Taran the Uniter

Glory   The title of “Uniter” is certainly tongue-in-cheek, but also holds quite a bit of truth to it. Before his ascension, during the 4th Age of Creation, Taran had risen to the rank of general in a prominent Letian kingdom. His skill in battle led them to many victories, growing their borders and earning him wealth and fame. But the kingdom he served eventually came to dispute with another powerful nation, one of equal strength. Dispute turned to war, and the whole of Letias felt it.   Taran was tasked with nothing less than the complete annihilation of their enemies, whatever the cost. The conflict raged for years, but eventually reached a stalemate at a narrow isthmus. Many attempts were made by both sides to break through and gain a foothold on the other side, but to no avail. Thousands of lives were senselessly lost, and this affected Taran greatly. He spoke with the royal family many times, pleading with them to bring an end to the war, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.   Finally, one day on the dawn of yet another battle, Taran strode out alone to the center of the isthmus. There he tossed his sword and shield to the ground, dug his hands into the earth, and made history. By some superhuman feat of strength he tore the land asunder, creating the strait that would come to be known as Taran's Wall - his final attempt at bringing the fighting to an end.   As the land split under him and he fell toward the sea as it came rushing in, he accepted his death. But there was one who did not - Karas, Grand God of War. Karas reached down and scooped Taran from his would-be grave, bringing him to join his pantheon as God of Heroism and Champions.   Meanwhile, back upon Lume, the two opposing armies were in shock. Not only had they witnessed something beyond the comprehension of many, a new problem faced them - the continent was drifting apart. In fear of their entire homeland being lost to waters unknown, the two sides tossed down their arms and began doing everything in their power to bind the two new lands together. First ropes and chains, then beams of wood, and eventually bridges of stone. As they built, a city began to build around them, and by the time the earth had settled the grand city of Ponte was born. Its citizens, once bitter enemies, could no longer remember their hatred after working alongside each other for so long.   And so the war was ended, and a new regional power was born, one that grew out of the ashes of the two defunct kingdoms whose power had been broken by Taran.   This is the story told to those who visit Ponte and hear of the triumphs of Taran. While undoubtedly embellished, Taran’s ascension cannot be questioned. Though the youngest of the gods, he commands a sizable following, and is highly regarded by many all across Lume.
