Sessions Eight and Beyond
General Summary
The would be heroes emerge from the Roaming Forest worse for wear with eyes held foreward on their missions to rescue he children. As they take one final step towards the resting place of the Nameless God, space seems to warp and compress in real time as they find themselves at the top of a great gravity defying chasm. Delapidated stares spiral downward towards a seemingly endless pit of stars and darkness as various rubble floats weightlessly in the center. A careful prod tells the party that this rubble is far from a trustworthy foothold however as they searh for a way to descend faster. As they spiral down the stairs to nowhere gaps begin to emerge prompting the characters to doubt and eventually, look down. This would prove to be quite the mistake however as fascination with the unknown madness can drive one to some dangerous temptations. Several near pitfalls later, the children come into view as does an altar with clear nefarious intent. The children beat our heroes to the altar and begin chanting in infernal about the return of the nameless god. Before anyone can stop them, a monstrous figure emerges before the party in an attempt to block their way. This would prove incredibly successful as many of the children sacrifice themselves in the name of their new dark deity. The fight drags on with neither side taking real ground, until a strike comes down first on Desmond, then on Maeve. Blood pools around the altar as Gabe and Sergei scoop the final child and take off towards the forest. A great maw takes shape in the air as a young girl screams in fear... or is it joy? The bear and the now elder rogue take the girl as far as the entrance to the realm of dreams with aid from the spirits of fallen protectors and as they step back into the material plane, a grave realization comes to Gabe, a sacrifice is required to seal the Nameless God away. In a final selfless act, Gabe plunges his murderous dagger into his own chest with a final smile as the gate seals itself for a final time. His vision begins to fade as a familiar voice is heard from above and a warm light envelopes his fragile body. He rises again to meet the gaze of his daughter and ursine partner. Were the events of the past months but a dream? Did he truly find himself on the edge of madness time and again? What was the murderous glint in his daughter's eyes he saw now and then? Did she always have that scar on her forehead? He would ask these questions even as the villagers drove him out of Ilmatter's Hope, even as he left Sergei to the wilds, even as he lie his head to sleep one. last. time....
The nameless daughter raised the murderous dagger high over her head and plunged it into her father's chest with a madening laughter of a child driven to the brink of death and sanity too many times in her young age. "Long live the Nameless God, Long live the Silent Chosen," as Gabe's eyes open, his last sight is of a third hollow eye opening in his daughter's forehead as she awakens to her role as the next dream carver...
