White Root

White Root is a plant found on Xin. It is used by many cultures as an important ingredient in the creation of Potions of Healing. Although it is somewhat rare to find in nature, its ability to reproduce asexual allows botanists, chemists, and alchemists to easily grow it under controlled circumstances.

Basic Information

Anatomy

White Root is a characterized by its stark white roots that form wispy, tangled masses just bellow the surface of the ground. The stems of White Root plants are thin and fragile, making the plant permeate across the ground forming a dense ground cover. Small leaves, no larger than a quarter, and in the shape of a rain droplet cover the stems.

Genetics and Reproduction

White Root reproduces asexually by spreading its root system just below the surface, the sprouting up new shoots.

Growth Rate & Stages

White Root's growth rate is erratic, as it is separated into two states depending on environmental conditions. During rainy seasons, White Root will enter a period of rapid growth. However, during periods of drought, White Root will enter into a period of slowly withdrawing back down into the root system.

Ecology and Habitats

White Root is prevalent in habitats on Xin where there is a large fluctuation in seasonal precipitation.

Domestication

Botanists have managed to successfully domesticate White Root by cutting off a piece of a wild White Root plant's root system and transplanting it into another location. Botanists will often keep White Root in a large bed containing rich soil that is kept well watered, in order to expedite the growth of the plant so that it can be harvested more often.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Botanists, Chemists, and Alchemists use White Root as an ingredient in Potions of Healing. There have also been other attempts to explore its use for other purposes, but none have been incredibly successful up to this point.
