The Legend of Admiral Altruist
The Immortal War was ended by one brave demon-child, a child of the knowledge-bearers, creatures of the sky, and an alliance so great none since have rivaled it.
Historical Basis
The gods once waged wars against each other on the material plane, killing hundreds in their kerfuffles. Admiral Altruist lead an army of mortals to defeat and exile them from our world.
The gods and demons were sent back to the planes they came from with the help of dragons during the Battle of the Planes.
Today, gods are still exiled from the material plane. Any god that would like to have a following or otherwise influence mortals are regulated by the government of the region. And no god is allowed to visit the material plane in their true form, a rule that is enforced by ancient magical protections set in place by Kusuma Xiloscient.
Spread
The legend of Admiral Altruist is known by all in Kun; even in Kassai, the Admiral is held in high respect.
Variations & Mutation
Most variations of the myth relate to what happened after the battles.
The commonfolk of Hygge mostly believe Admiral Altruist fell during the battle. At the very end, when it seemed the mortals had surely won, he fell by an awry spell or misled sword.
The peasantry in Kassai believe he was slain by his partner, who had grown envious of Altruist's fame, months after the battle.
Many of the nobility in both Kassai and Hygge are highly educated, and as part of their studies, have read a translation of the original legend. The original writing did not detail the Admiral's death. But they still assume him to be dead, as it happened so long ago.
The elves and long-lifed fey know he did not die for many years after the battle. They grew up hearing stories from their grandparents of parties after the war attended by the Admiral.
Most curious, however, is that naval archives only have record of a Vice Admiral Altruist.
Cultural Reception
The group most affected by this legend are the Tiefling. Seeing as Altruist was a horned, golden-eyed Tiefling himself, his victory is a great source of pride for all Tieflings. The Legend of Admiral Altruist is also why Tieflings are accepted amongst regular society rather than being cast aside to hide in shame because of their demonic ancestry.
This tale is also a source of pride for Dwarves of the Forged Mountain, who descend from the men and women who crafted the armour and sword the Admiral brought to battle.
In Kassai, however, the Admiral is revered. Not as a beacon of pride, but one of hope. The Battle of the Planes created an opportunity for the people of Kassai to free themselves from the dragons who ruled them.
