Barkley holds conversation with Demons outside his hometown, meeting Kitasun and Nadiri.
An estimated timeline of Barkley's 15 years of travel outside the confines of his hometown in the Demon Forest, along with what he left behind. The town Barkley grew up in either contained no form of accurate time-keeping or their calendars were destroyed along with the town in later years. If the town did contain any form of timekeeping, it was assumed to have been based off the nighttime sky, similar to the Ishallan Calendar. The details will probably remain unknown, hidden behind the thick miasma protecting his notebooks. This timeline is pieced together through accounts of Demons known to have come into contact with Barkley in the past.
The era before proper Human and Demon contact.
Barkley holds conversation with Demons outside his hometown, meeting Kitasun and Nadiri.
Barkley discovers the outer reaches of the Demon Forest's northern border. The first Human to reach this outer land, he dubbed it the Dead Land. He lives here until his eventual return to his hometown.
Barkley returned to his hometown, and is promptly executed as an enemy of the town's safety.
During Barkley's execution, a quick glance at one of the notebooks he brought back home released an incurable threat that still looms today, threatening both Humans and Demons alike. It is known as Barkley's Disease. Then, without a trace, the disease is gone and every afflicted individual lays dead.
Thirteen of Barkley's original fifteen notebooks are discovered in the ruins of his hometown. They are taken from their resting place.
Created after the founding of Ishalla.
The previously rediscovered thirteen notebooks are smuggled into Ishalla, kept secret from the government.
A lost notebook is rediscovered outside Ishalla. The disease runs rampant once again, starting with the unlucky reader. This time however, the disease left the host in a debilitated mental state, with the same boils and peeling skin as the original outbreak. The host died at a much later time, after the body is left crippled due to malnutrition and dehydration. The disease is now confirmed to spread through touching an afflicted individual, along with consumption of diseased flesh. This outbreak lasts for seven whole years and takes thousands of lives, mostly Humans.
The last notebook was discovered in the Demon Forest. This final book unleashed the scariest form of the disease yet- the list of afflicted now included Demons themselves. Through the sheer number of the Demon population, the disease rapidly spread throughout the Demon Forest, reaching the northern as well as southern borders. Many infected numbers were quelled within the inner depths of the Forest, and the Forest itself began contributing to the quarantining of infected individuals, sacrificing itself to keep them away from any settlements. To this day, the struggle continues. A few smaller cases pop up here and there inside the Forest, but the brunt of the disaster lies just outside the Forest borders. With no cure and an impossible amount of afflicted individuals to kill, the only possible way to keep living is to keep them out of the Forest. But who knows how long that can last.
