It's kind of your basic fantasy world, right? There's magical sorcerers with purple eyes who have powerful magic, magical elves with pointed ears who have less-powerful (but still powerful) magic, and humans who don't (usually) have any magic. The world is also inhabited by magical creatures and plants. It orbits a gas giant that most cultures worship as a god. There are nation states falling and rising, and currently (as in, during the time of my books) there's a war for power over the eastern region of Domhan between the long-ruling wizards of Bruix and the smaller kingdoms of men and elves. How? Technology is developing faster, and magic is being fought on a more even playing field. In the story, our hero is just a young sorcerer voluntarily joining in the fight against the end of his nation's place as top dog, though he's fighting for his own personal reasons more than anything.
