Erwin Rommel

Erwin Rommel was one of the first generals to see combat against the soviet union on the border with Poland. He was in charge of the 9th and 12 infantry and expertly encircled almost 50,000 soviet troops at Poznan. He was, however, forced to retreat and was part of the frenzied defense of berlin, where he personally crewed and artillery emplacement when manpower was short. The 1st through 12 infantry was assigned to him after Jodl was killed at Danzig. The 3rd infantry was used to cover the escape of the rest of his divisions to Austria, where the were evacuated by an Italian and french volunteer force. He is currently in command of the exiled german governments 1st army group, which is currently stationed in Italy. Rommel is used as a propaganda hero, as many believe he was instrumental in keeping the Soviets at bay in Austria while the OKW and Hitler were evacuated.
