Dragonborn

The Dragonborn, descendants of the mighty dragons, are an awe-inspiring sight to behold in the world of Trorune; like their draconic ancestors they are divided into notable, distinct ancestral lines: the Chromatic, the Metallic, and the Gem, each distinguished by unique characteristics and qualities.   The Chromatic Dragonborn boast a lineage connected to the powerful and often fearsome Chromatic Dragons. Bearing scales in hues of black, blue, green, red, or white, they exude an air of raw power and unyielding strength. Often driven by strong emotions, they possess a formidable presence that demands respect and commands attention. Each color lineage imparts its unique traits and an elemental affiity, such as the black's affinity for acid and subterfuge, the blue's affinity for lightning and storms, the green's mastery over poison and nature, the red's fiery breath, or the white's tenacity and tolerance to the cold.   In contrast, the Metallic Dragonborn are kin to the noble and majestic Metallic Dragons, shimmering in hues of brass, bronze, copper, gold, or silver. Radiating a sense of regality and wisdom, they embody virtues such as valor, benevolence, and justice. Their scales glint like precious metals, and they are often adorned with intricate designs and patterns that showcase their heritage. Just as their Chromatic counterparts, each metallic lineage brings forth unique abilities, with the brass and gold endowed with fire-breathing prowess, the bronze with the ability to manipulate electricity, the copper able to spew caustic bile, and the silver with its freezing cold breath.   Then there are the Gem Dragonborn, who trace their ancestry to the rare and enigmatic Gem Dragons, displaying an array of vibrant colors and radiant personalities. Unlike their Chromatic and Metallic kin, the Gem Dragonborn are less concerned with the division of good and evil, embracing a more neutral outlook on life. Their scales shimmer like precious gemstones, and their magical abilities reflect their respective colors. The Amethyst Dragonborn possess psychic talents, the Crystal Dragonborn master illusions, the Emerald Dragonborn command nature's forces, the Sapphire Dragonborn control the elemental power of air and water, and the Topaz Dragonborn wield the power of light and warmth.     Despite their differences, all Dragonborn share a sense of pride and honor derived from their draconic heritage. Their striking presence and undeniable prowess in battle make them a force to be reckoned with, and their loyalty to their clans and those they deem kin knows no bounds.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn, regardless of their ancestry, can be easily described as a dragon that walks like a man, although the vast majority of Dragonborn today are wingless. They are tall, broad, and heavily muscled, and have a semi-prehensile tail of around three to four feet in length.

Biological Traits

The Chromatic and Metallic Dragonborn have powerful breath weapons that align with their dragon ancestors: Black and Copper Dragonborn spew an acidically corrosive liquid breath; Blue and Bronze Dragonborn release bolts of lightning; Brass, Gold, and Red Dragonborn exhale gouts of fire; Silver and White Dragonborn can spew breaths of arctic chill; Green Dragons exhale plumes of noxious, poisonous gas.   Older and more powerful Metallic Dragonborn, like their Metallic forebears, gain use of a secondary breath that can temporaliy paralyzed or knock their enemies away.   The Gem Dragonborn, much like their Gem Dragon ancestors, wield powerfully magical psionics and energy breaths; each matching their draconic ancestors. Amethyst Dragonborn release a power breath of force energy; Crystal Dragonborn expel divine energy; Emerald Dragonborn manifest power psychic blasts; Sapphire Dragonborn release torrents of concussive, thunderous energy; Topaz Dragonborn envelop their enemies in life-draining necrotic energy. More powerful Gem Dragonborn can temporarily manifest draconic wings of pure energy, allowing them to take to the air.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn grow extremely quickly in comparison to humans and the other hominid races; they are able to walk within hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a ten-year old human child by the age of three, and reach adulthood by fifteen, living to be around eighty or so years.

Biological Cycle

As reptilians, Dragonborn are exothermic and rely somewhat on the heat of the environment to get themselves to a working state. They tend to not do the best in colder environments, save for White and Silver Dragonborn.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Though they boast many charateristics of their dragon forebears, much of the dragons' true power was never bestowed upon them: the Dragonborn may be of the dragon, but aside from their hulking size and massive bulk and their magical, elemental breath, they hold no more supernatural sensory capabilities than a the common man.

Naming Traditions

Dragonborn are given personal names shortly after their hatching, but they put their clan names first as a mark of honor. Often they will also acquire a childhood name or nickname that is often used between and amongst clutchmates as a descriptive term or a term of endearment; said name might be used to recall an event or center on a habit they remember of the individual.
