Fraxia

Overview

Journal Entry from an Unknown Explorer

You look at the plant, it reminds you of the flame you once saw in candlelight at your home. But this is different, it has a stem that is an ash-black that travels down to the ground, and it is easily obscured by the brighter, more vibrant flowers that each force themselves to grow next to it. An overwhelming urge comes over you, and you reach down to pluck it. Looking closer at it, it seems to almost flicker with light as a real fire would. Just once, you'd like to have a taste of it. I mean, it looks absolutely wonderful. Taking a petal off, you hold it into your hand before you swallow it. Happiness seems to consume you, a euphoria, unlike anything you've ever experienced. It is greater than anything else imaginable. And then, just as quickly, the world goes black. You fall, your body hits the ground and you go cold. But to the next person to pass by this lovely plant, they'll notice a distinct, almost feral elation upon your face.   And that is why you never eat fraxia leaves. While they certainly can give you the high of your life, they're just as quick to end it with the powerful neurotoxin that pumps itself through your system within a matter of minutes. However, fraxia is of course also a very useful tool in order to quickly improve the growth of nearby flora.   Though, I can't deny how lovely it looks. I mean, I almost wanted to swallow the entire thing. I believe this is, in part, due to some subtle excretion of chemicals that it releases into the air around itself, confusing the brain into thinking that it's a treat rather than a deadly plant that could kill you in an instant. As such, there's no reason for you to think otherwise until it's too late. Hopefully, though, utilizing this odd flower will help to spread the bounty that can be found within the area of the Vestfort Plains.   ... I... I didn't realize how potent the chemicals would be, honestly. This entire time, I've been slowly chewing on a petal. This will probably be the rest of the page is illegible

Appearance

From what has been discussed by the few who have seen the fraxia flower and been able to resist its pull, the flower itself looks to be similar to a small candle flame rest atop of a thin black vine. Besides this, there's a small bulb that is situated near where the petals of the flower are situated. It is assumed that whenever the petals are detached, this new head replaces it with another bulb prepared to grow underneath, further enticing more victims.

Effects

And while one would think that the rest of the flowers nearby would be decaying, the opposite is the fact. Each looks even healthier in the presence of the fraxia flower, and thus it is concluded that the flower's chemicals are used in order to lure people to their deaths to give more nutrients from the victim's body to both itself and nearby flowers. As such, it's quite effective and has been one way to explain some of the bountiful nature of the Vestfort Plains.   Fraxia, by its nature, has the ability to instill mania into a person to give them a sense of complete euphoria. This is part of the symptoms that occur as the chemicals within the plant itself begin to shut down functions of the nervous system, reaching the point where it has someone pass out from it and die shortly thereafter. This is especially effective in smaller doses to give a diluted sense of the mania while still being able to poison and eliminate targets.
