Aberrant

A human warped by mutations. They can manipulate quantum energy through their Mazarin-Rashoud node which gives them access to a variety of powers, but become more inhuman the more energy the handle. Originally appearing in the 2020s, they were treated as celebrities and superheroes, but eventually splintered into warring factions, driven by arrogance and madness, as each though they knew what was best for the Earth and for the future of humanity. The Aberrant War lasted from 2056-2067, and left most of the northern hemisphere a post-apocalyptic wasteland. After the war, the Aberrants were driven from Earth and agreed never to return.   Most Aberrants encountered by Aeon agents are unstable, powerful mutants (like Reavers from Firefly, but with powers). Aberrants that remained stable, including allied superheroes such as Caestus Pax and Team Tomorrow, left Earth to settle extra-solar colonies. Any new Aberrants that 'erupt' on Earth are either terminated on sight, or secretly moved to one of the extra-solar colonies if they are judged to be stable. No Aberrant is welcome on Earth, and 'superhero' media is vastly out of favour.
