Chonta’s Roar

Once, a great smoke was spotted beyond the sacred forest rising from the sea. Death surrounded this smoke as it rose from the water.   Not long after, a rumble of the ground shook the world. Stretching past what was imaginable. After the rumble stopped, in the place of the smoke stood a dark black pillar or rock, fire, and smoke.   It loomed over the forest, threatening its very existence.   As each day passed, the pillar became more and more angry at the presence of the forest, spewing fire from it to attack the forest.   While the forest held strong, the pillar would not be ignored as it started to conjure fire from within.   The forest, worried for the many creatures living within began to raise the ancestors of its protectors, the elves.   These creatures rose from bark and branch, imbued with the magic of the forest and the minds of the fallen.   They pushed forward onto the edge of the forest and created a Great Wall as the pillar erupted its hate and fire onto the forest.   The wall deflected such ill tidings and flung them back at the pillar of fire.   With danger diverted, these creatures pushed past the pillar to silence it with love of the forest.   With thanks, the elves gave much respect to these creatures, naming them the ancestors of mine or dryads.   They say that a fallen elf if felled or buried in the forest, they will rise as a dryad in times of great need from the forest.   It is also said that the Pillar of Fire, or Chonta will one day awaken to roar again and spew hatred upon the lands.
