The island nation of Marcon being an isolationist nation that recently opened its port for trade with Halion in return for assistance with technological advancements.
The island itself rich with rare minerals in more accessible locations compared to the mainland's mountains. Making it a target throughout history, but the combination of a powerful defensive navy, and mandatory military training deterred any serious invasion force. With the advent of cannons, its navy quickly became irrelevant leading to the desire for trade.
