Personal history

Adopted at infancy, a screaming Sine was rescued from an attack on a supply convoy a few leagues offshore from Balar. A representative from the Church, Tendal Helsing tore him from the ocean’s grip of death as the lead ship’s hull was destroyed by an artillery shell. Ordersmen and guards from Elarus tried in vain to protect their valuable cargo and crew; the blood of humanity and alchemical dust drew gruesome hues across the ship's’ decking. The elderly Tendal had a few bites left in him, and drawing a fan of blessed blades in one hand, while holding the baby in the other, he clashed into a group of pirates. The brigands drew aside but were cut down by a lethal flurry of Keys, the remaining bandits ahead were apprehended and disabled smoothly by Tendal’s experience in close quarter combat. A wheezing Tendal collapsed into a rowboat hanging off the aft side, but not before slicing the tethers that kept them suspended. Plummeting into the cold sea, the impact jarred the two and Tendal murmured words of comfort to the bawling infant wrapped in cloth. Grasping his cross pendant for an instant in a grip that whitened his knuckles, the old bishop rose and mouthed off a hasty prayer. Finding his way to the oars, Tendal rowed himself to the shore and brought the child of barely a year to Palanom on horseback.
Sine Helsing was raised by Tendal in the years that followed. Tendal told his adoptive son that he was saved by Eon, and Eon had a plan for him to become a great man. He attended church and was schooled by Ordersmen to learn how to fight and wield Void Keys that would cancel dark magic and spiritual energy. Sine was a quiet child, and he mostly found challenge and reward in sparring with his trainers over preaching in a dusty church.
On a cold autumn night, an eight year old Sine was knelt in evening prayer in his room when his father died of a heart attack. The next morning he was buried and Sine spoke words at his funeral. He did not cry, and he never felt the need to afterwards. His father had passed on, but he never understood why Tendal had saved him. If the infant Sine was going to die, didn’t he deserve it? Sine chases the idea of death as his salvation, but his arrogance lets him survive, contradicting even his own planned fate - he became a deadly weapon fearless of death. By the age of seventeen Sine Helsing had surpassed all of his trainers to become one of the best Judicators in the province of Nivlan, as well as becoming fairly adept at thaumaturgy and using Void Keys. Throughout his training as a Judicator of the Zero Sacrament he learned thaumaturgy geared towards abjuration, conjuration, and teleportation magic.
Sine Helsing accepts his duty to purge the world of abominations and other evils, as this is his father’s and the Church’s direction for him. However, a part of the cold-blooded heretic hunter’s heart yearns for true fulfillment beyond his duties. The Arch Judicator quietly seeks this truth while his emotionless blades spray the land red with the blood of his enemies.

Education

Raised by adoptive father Tendal Helsing and Ordersmen in Palanom. Sine learned martial arts, religious history, and later sorcery.

Employment

In lifetime service to the Eon Holy Church as an Arch Judicator, the highest rank of Judicator offered without ceremonial bounds.

Sine Helsing, orphaned by fire and seduced by chaos, exists to heartlessly purge Toran of its most heinous heretics. Armed with charms and blessed blades, the Arch Judicator's name alone torments the minds of sinners.
