The Stout District

This small corner of Titan is home to the remains of three clans of refugee Mountain Dwarves. These fiercely proud people loath the Legion army that killed almost all of their menfolk, and forced the remaining population to flee to Titan. Though the Dwarven populous call the district New Raggan, the area is known by all others simply as The Stout District.   The buildings in the district look similar to the other buildings of Titan, but a keen eye can spot evidence of rock debris in hidden alleyways, indicating some of the Dwarven population miss their homes under the mountains a little too much.   The population freely associate with the rest of Titan, and are appreciative that Titan’s leadership allowed them to move to the city. Again, keen observers may sense an air of elitism among the Dwarves, and though they are part of the city, they may not feel a part of the culture.   A small temple to the Dwarven God Moradin, the All-Father is located in the centre of the district, where healing and other clerical services are offered…. at a cost. This temple is the cultural centre of the district.   While outsiders worshipping other Gods is tolerated, all residents of the district are strict followers of Moradin the All-Father. The temple is freely open to all people of good heart, and any and all dwarves visiting the temple are treated with great respect and hospitality. Outsiders, however, have reported strange phenomenon when visiting the temple.   Two expert Dwarven metalsmiths have forges in the district and are proud of the excellent products they produce.   There is also a small brewery which acts as the social centre of the district.

Government

New Raggan elects “The Council of Nine” every nine years, to govern at a local level, and to meet with Titan’s leadership over issues that are affecting the district. The internal processes of the council, as well as how they are elected, is a closely guarded secret, kept from the rest of Titan.

Industry & Trade

Though not wealthy, the residents of the district live a comfortable life. They provide exceptional smith and stonework services to Titan and the surrounding towns. Red Dwarf Ale and Flint’s Honey Mead are also said to be the best of their kind in 1,000 leagues. Raggan brewery is a very good source of income for the district.

Guilds and Factions

The Raggan Brewers Guild is by far the most powerful guild in the district. Their members are always represented on the Council of Nine.   The Sisters of Moradin, while not part of the Council of Nine, are held in high regard by all residents of the district.   Lastly, the Metal and Stone Workers Guild are always in the forefront of political and economic debates.

History

Three major Dwarven clans have lived for a thousand years under The Blue Mountains, south of The Capital. The Silverbeards, The Ironhelms, and the Stoneborns lived peacefully together, perfecting the arts of stonework and metalwork..   Then came the Legion.   The Thanes were given the option to surrender and make their underground caverns accessible as hidden supply lines for the war effort. The Thanes refused. “No Tall Folk would ever tell a dwarf what to do.”   The ensuing battle lasted 2 years, but eventually The Legion won. The dwarves never surrendered and battled until almost the last warrior fell. 95% of the menfolk perished in that fateful war. A handful of warriors hastily fought to allow as many women and children as possible to escape. Over the course of a year most perished, and they eventually made their way to Titan, where they were greeted with open arms. The only terms for their entry was the vow from every mouth that they help defend Titan from any and all foreign invaders forever and a day. The refugees gladly accepted the terms, and were given a district of Titan to call their own. They named their district New Raggan, after their fallen capital under the mountain. This name, however, never stuck with the rest of Titan who came to call them The Stout District.
