Knowledge from Beyond

In a world of knowledge and adventure, many seek to expand and contribute to the world's lore. It is said that the average mind can only handle so much information. Most races are not afflicted by this, but the long lived races may be at risk of this affliction. When one makes knowledge, especially undiscovered information, their primary pursuit in life, they can be at risk to over fill their brain. It is said that those who over load their brain become a shell of their former self and have difficulty holding a conversation, but can still take care of themselves.

Causes

It is said that the Knowledge from Beyond can be caused by two methods. The first being when a creature has absorbed too much information for them to handle and their brain breaks. Their synapses start firing incorrectly and it becomes extremely difficult to formulate a thought. Usually, it is the older elves that are at risk of this occurring.   The second cause is when a creature learns forbidden knowledge. Knowledge granted by an elder god, or learned from a forbidden tome that the creature was not prepared for. This can cause their mind to snap in same way, making conversing with the victim next to impossible.

Symptoms

The madness manifests itself suddenly. The afflicted creature changes in an instant and can no longer form a proper sentence, hold a conversation or finish a thought. Usually the creature becomes confused and has an emotional response to their confusion or random words are replaced in their sentences that they are not aware of.

Treatment

Beyond divine intervention, there is no known treatment for this affliction.

Prevention

The best ways to prevent this affliction is to not mess with forbidden knowledge and cursed gods. Beyond that, it is advised that elves do not aggressively pursue knowledge for the entirety of their lives. It is not a guarantee that an elf will catch this affliction, just a risk.
