Dragons

Summary

Dragons, the giant fire breathing monsters, are well known to be an extinct monster. Bones of the great beasts have been uncovered all over the continent, however, dragons have not been for thousands of years. Due to the low birth rate and the rise of the adventurer, it is believed that Dragons were slain faster than they could repopulate.

Historical Basis

According to tomes that existed before The End, Dragons were once extremely prevalent beasts that roamed freely across the Continent. Often, great dragons would lay claim to mountain ranges, fields, volcanoes and even cities, forcing others to serve underneath them. After The End, dragons were an uncommon sight, but not rare. There were several notorious dragons that were well known across the land. Prashan, the great Blue Dragon, for example, founded the Prashan Kingdom and ruled over his subjects with an iron fist. The Dominion of Bolvikik was named after the wandering King Bolvikik, who killed a Red Dragon by himself.   Dragons played a major role in the continent before their population dwindled. As man became more autonomous, they clashed more and more with the aggressively territorial Dragons, who were pushed into the wild. When Dragon numbers began to dwindle, it was not uncommon for up and coming adventurers to seek out and hunt down great dragons to prove their mettle. As a result, the Dragons became extinct.   It is said by Raro, master of lore, that dragons are not truly extinct, but that there are lands unknown to man where dragons still rule.

In Literature

Many stories exist with dragons being antagonists. Children's books, young adventurer books, as well as Pick-Your-Own-Adventurer books often portray dragons as the main antagonist. There is also a genre of book referred to as "resurgence books" where the theme is the return of dragons.
Date of Setting
Raro states that the last confirmed sighting of a dragon is 20,956 AE
