Blackchapel

Demographics

The People of Blackchapel are made up of many races. The predominant race is human, however, there are many more races in the area. Most races that have the natural edge in combat, such as Half-Orcs, Drow, and Lizardfolk thrive in Blackchapel. No person is truly from Blackchapel, but have rather felt the call to the mercenary lifestyle and joined up with a mercenary company within blackchapel. While there are still food suppliers and taverns, the majority of people in Black Chapel are made up of the "fighting class."

Government

Blackchapel is operated by a council. The council is made up by the owners and operators of the S-Ranked mercenary groups. The council operates on a democratic voting system where each council member gets one vote on the topic at hand. All votes that end in ties are considered to have failed. Mercenary groups are rated based on the amount of work they bring to the city, so it is not possible to sit on the council without being a success on that front. With the council being independently wealthy, they have formed a system where mercenaries take rotations operating as the guards for the city. With no systems to be paid, Blackchapel is a tax-free society.

Defences

Blackchapel is surrounded on all sides by extremely tall walls which are guarded by the selected mercenary group of the day. The town exists in a state of mutually assured destruction, as everyone is well armed and skilled in combat. To wrong another person may as well be a death sentence, so the crime rate is extremely low. The average citizen is well armed and experienced in combat, making Blackchapel both the safest and most dangerous city in the realm.

Industry & Trade

Blackchapel does not do a lot of trade with other areas. Trade is extremely privatized in Blackchapel due to the fact that the mercenary groups feed their own and restaurants and taverns reselling food at a profit. This makes the trade routes in the area a lucrative avenue.

Infrastructure

Blackchapel's economy is centered around mercenary groups. People from all around the world go to Blackchapel to hire mercenary groups to do their bidding. Anyone going to Blackchapel is there to hire a man to kill another man.

History

Blackchapel used to be the name of a guildhall the existed within Titan where one could hire someone to do the dirty work they needed. This was an extremely successful guildhall, which resulted in Blackchapel moving out of the abandoned church of its namesake and into a larger building. Other guildhalls opened, but Blackchapel worked a deal with them to operate out of one building under separate guilds to save the costs. Many guilds followed this route and Blackchapel became a hub for mercenaries. After a few years, Blackchapel was attracting business from outside of Titan's region as well as the Dominion of Bolvikik. Blackchapel was moved out of its building and created a settlement at the mouth of the mountain pass to save travel for those outside of the Dominion of Bolvikik. Each mercenary group brought something to the new settlement named Blackchapel, such as building walls, creating buildings or roadways. Each contributing member was given a seat on the council which discussed the betterment of Blackchapel. Eventually, this would become the local government. More mercenary groups were lured to the location and Blackchapel continued to grow.   While the destruction of the Mountain pass and the collapse of the Dominion of Bolvikik slowed down business, Blackchapel quickly recovered. It appears that no matter how small the world feels, someone will always pay someone else to kill for them.

Architecture

Most buildings have stone foundations, but are built of wood. Most buildings have a uniform look to them and use a black or ash gray colour scheme. The road is made of cobble stone. Sequences of stones are coloured to create lines, which lead people to specific mercenary groups. All guildhalls vary in size, but have a similar structure. They are identified by the sign they hang outside, which usually shows the mercenary group's sygil.
