Khalawk

The Khalawks are notoriously dangerous and have therefore not been meticulously documented. Khalawks remain a mystery; a horror story that haunts the minds of any who wonder too far into the forest.   The name Khalawk is a corruption of the Dvarven words, 'Khalo' and 'Awrok' meaning 'Lord (of the) Air'. The term is an appropriate name for the mysterious creature, but scholars find it odd that the Dvarven name is the one that stuck, considering the Khalawk is more prevalent outside of Dvarven control.

Basic Information

Anatomy

What is known is that they are swift, winged beasts. They have sharp talons and teeth that is able to rip through armour and bone with ease. They are presumed to have front and hind legs as most animals posess, determined by trackers.   Those who have witnessed a Khalawk attack often liken the frenzied event to that of a crazed, malicious Dragon.

Ecology and Habitats

Khalawks are found throughout the realm, but they tend to thrive in deep woodland. They are primarily found in Umber's ancient forests.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are known to hunt alone as well as in packs. It would appear that Khalawks attack and eat anything that crosses their path. They are also known to attack for sport, where bodies are left untouched after being killed.

Khalawks are not known to be affected by the changing of the seasons. It does appear that they can be more active in the darkness and at night.
