Whisper Tilt

At times, individuals come closer to the darker side of the world or find themselves in the presence of forces beyond them. If these forces are of the Worm Cult persuasion, then the unlucky person may just find themselves 'Whisper Tilted'. Hissing whispers and malign voices find them in their quiet moments early on, caressing their thoughts in an almost undetectable way. Sometimes understood, sometimes indecipherable. With time and focus these words can become clearer and lead them toward the dark path of the Stone Worm Cult and their evil designs for the world. Those that walk into corruption find the messages and orders clearing until the words of their master are all that they receive. If one were to fight against the maddening whispers, they would find the frequency and volume increasing to maddening levels. Focus and willpower can quickly crumble under the onslaught, until they either acquiesce to something demanded of them and leave the experience worse for wear but free of their influence, or on fighting further, submit to madness and lose what is left of themselves. A faith healer of sufficient skill can banish the whispers, and even simple prayers to the gods can quiet them for a time early on, but only properly blessed holy items or divine intervention can outright prevent the whispers from taking root and digging in. Though it is relatively uncommon, there is still a small chance that the doomsayer or gibbering lunatic in the dark underside of the city is Whisper Tilted, and their madness may just be catching.
