Emperor Eskele Sylamara the Fourth

Current Emperor of Sylamas and known to be callus and cruel, Eskele Sylamara IV was not always a tyrant. In bygone years, he acted in the interest of his own people at the expense of other nations but did not actively support the atrocities that he is known for currently. The young Eskele would have taken his older counterpart for some sort of heretical monster. Alas, somewhere along the way his rule took a dark turn and even his own people fear him. The ongoing war with Maiara was touted as being in the interest of their country and the good name of their god Calazhees. It was seen as putting the upstarts from across the sea back in their place. However, many actions taken do not make sense for anyone but a conqueror and try as his hands might to stem the flow of information to his people, many still receive news of the true nature of the war and spread it like wildfire across the nation. This has contributed heavily to the militaristic state of the Sylamasian mainland. The upper class are responsible for much of the pull that their country still carries worldwide. His advisors carry out his orders and bend the public back to their will whenever they are able, but a not insubstantial portion of the population has doubts. The fact that his mind is no longer entirely his own may have quite a bit to do with his slow decline into his current state.
