Archanan Scions
Scions are beings made up of two parts: a vessel comprised of sacred crystal and the power of the goddess Archana, and a repentant soul in the goddess' care. These souls that have regrets or feelings of sorrow that prevent their peaceful sleep in death are given tasks in the land of the living and complete them in anonymity. While it is not strictly forbidden for the Scion to reveal their previous identity, it is known to be painful for everyone involved and is thus not a course of action to be taken lightly. Most returning Scions will allow a nickname to be given by those around them but will not go out of their way to name themselves so as not to become too attached to this temporary life. They take their duties seriously and complete them diligently to redeem their past actions and shed any lingering guilt or regret. A scant few cases will see extended assignments for a Scion, such as a person who served a church diligently in life becoming a permanent guardian in death. These are the most likely situations for one to assume their past identity again. More commenly a Scion will be a guardian of a pilgrimage or will be sent out by the goddess in response to pleas for aid from her faithful. These beings are capable of Archanan magic, but will only posess skills and knowledge that they had in life unless specifically informed of a fact or situation before their creation.
