Cal

A large metropolitan city at the mouth of the River Keld. Cal is divided into three districts: the Harbor District and the Merchant's District south of the river, and the Temple District to the north. Castle Calden sits outside the city walls.   The Harbor District: Characterized by wooden buildings ranging from quaint to ramshackle, and a few large warehouses. Dominated, obviously, by the harbor itself, where one can find workers and sailors during the day, and unsavory business deals at night. Most of the residences here are of the urban poor.

Demographics

Cal is inhabited primarily by humans, but has thriving trade relationships both with the gnomes of the Gale Islands and with the dwarves of the Dur-Talek Mountains, and representatives of both races can be found within the city walls. The gnomes in particular can frequently be found near the Harbor District, where they have a small community centered around the Trickster's Favor Inn.

Government

Cal and its surrounding area is ruled by King Calden, and a court of aristocracy.

Defences

Cal is surrounded by a well-fortified wall and has its own military force which doubles as city watch.

Industry & Trade

Cal is extremely prosperous, as the major trade routes headed inland pass upriver. Commerce and tolls have made the city wealthy, and it maintains close diplomatic relations with most states in Gelland and beyond.
