The Storm Kingdom
The Storm Kingdom is located in the Writhing Marshes in the North-Central portion of Tiarna. It is a harsh and mystical land known for its excellent ship crafters and its sorcerers. The kingdom is under near constant beratement from the ocean storms that punish the coast and rage all the way to the mainland with some of the stronger storms reaching the Koterran Wall mountains to the south.
Structure
The Storm Kingdom is led by a Pharoah who is appointed by a council of Viziers which are made up of elders of the various villages and towns in the kingdom. The Pharoah commands absolute power and the Viziers govern the towns and enact his will. All Viziers have some level of competency in the mystic arts with the most powerful ones being chosen to serve on the Golden Council, the Pharoah's personal group of advisors and subordinates that govern the capital city of The Great Pyramid.
History
The Storm Kingdom can trace its origin back to the Tragic Age with the first Pharoah of Storms uniting the tribes of the Writhing Marshes together through a long and bloody conquest. The first Pharoah wielded a golden staff called "Storm Swallower" with which he used to dissipate the flurry of storms that ravaged the land and bring fair weather to the kingdom. The land became a very powerful state and enslaved many other peoples from different areas of Tiarna. They used these slaves to construct a new capital for this burgeoning empire, The Great Pyramid. It was fashioned out of solid gold mined from the Koterran Wall Mountains and stood over 300 feet high. Through the years it has withered along with its kingdom and the country is no longer the power that it once was. The decline began after the death of the First Pharoah in 4773BAE which heralded a bloody civil war that was fought by the dead pharaoh's viziers to try and seize power of the kingdom. The war ended with the anointing of the Pharoah's bastard son, Amon, as ruler. He ruled with an iron fist, slaughtering entire villages if one of its citizens spoke any form of dissent. He also was very interesting in magic and ordered many sacrifices including human sacrifice. These rituals were done with the belief that it would increase his magical powers as he could not wield the "Storm Swallower" the way that his father had done. As a result the storms returned to the land and tyrannical rule was paired with horrible weather and living conditions. The unrest of the citizens became so great that they eventually revolted and killed the Pharaoh along with his Golden Council and buried them in cursed sarcophagi in the deepest depths of the crypts of the Golden Pyramid. The next pharaoh was Lukman the God-Chosen, who was the one who had dealt the fatal blow to Amon. His rule was just and was thought of as the true successor of the First Pharaoh. The land prospered under his family line and they ruled until 4137BAE when they were ousted by a powerful rival family. Succeeding lines of pharaohs followed with each suit, ruling for a few hundred years before being usurped by another rival family. This constant change of power gradually weakened the country and the ceaseless storms continued to plague the land which has led to the Storm Kingdom's state of the current day, a storied but battered and weary kingdom full of old power and mystery.
Fear not the storm without. Rejoice the storm within.
