Namira (Nam-eera)

Namira is called the Stonelands. Settled about 30 years ago by industrious Sindoran merchant guilds, Namira is known as a wild land of stone and sand. Between two mountain ranges are the only livable lands, at least so far, and the merchant princes that rule the land pay large sums of money to mercenaries who can venture into the untamed plateaus and deserts to find valuables and slaughter monsters.

Structure

Namira is a frontier ruled by merchant guilds using the continent to extract out resources. As such, there is little in the way of law and order and what little exists is there to protect the guild's interests and profits.

Culture

Namira's culture is one of gritty survival. The people that have gone there to establish civilization are there to find their fortunes in the stone lands, either by working for it or killing for it. The young generation born and bred there are now some of the hardest people in the world.

Public Agenda

The merchant guilds are in Namira to milk it for its rich resources, trying to tame the land for long term investment.

Assets

Namira is home of Al'Cair, the City of Gold in the old tongue. This city is the home of most of the continent's industry nd ore refinement. It is both defensible and industrious. Many small towns run the length of the Living Valley, handling most of the gathering of ore and other resources. From the port city of Tanor, the riches of the continent are sent out to make fortunes for the guilds that run it.

History

Namira was been a wild land of monsters that few ever braved except for foolhardy adventurers. One such adventurer returned after a year in Namira with a fortune in gold. His name was Varin Jesik and after his return, he told tales of ravenous giants, monstrous dragons and savage cannibals. He did invest his gold into a merchant guild, which in turn returned to Namira. His new venture, called the Tradesbond, began routine trips back and forth to Namira to find treasures and return them to civilizations.    After a decade of this back and forth, the Tradesbond had enough for a serious expedition and city founding. They found a few dozen backers and launched a flotilla meant to not just visit the continent, but colonize it. These dozens of smaller guilds became known as the Exchange and the Tradesbond became the defacto leaders of it.   Ever since then, the Exchange and the Tradesbond have been spreading their reach over the continent, attempting to take the far western stonelands, but often repelled by Stone Giants and other monstrous races. They now hire mercenaries for large amounts of gold to go into these regions and kill as many monsters as they can. Many have gotten rich off of these ventures, but the Tradesbond seem to have near limitless resources.

Demography and Population

The people of Namira are wildly diverse. Humans make up perhaps half the population, but the next highest percentage is dwarf at around 8%. You have halflings, gnomes, dragonborn, half orcs, bugbears, kobolds and more living in the Stonelands.

Military

Namira's military is largely made of mercanry bands making a fortune to police and hunt monsters in the wilds of the Stonelands.

Religion

Religion is largely ignored in Namira. Some worship the Light and the Creator, but no one seems to care one way or the other. While religion may salve people's souls in other places, its no comfort in the Stonelands.

Foreign Relations

Namira has decent relations with Alik'r and Theresk as neither wants Namira for mroe than resources and trade.

Education

Education is largely an afterthought in Namira. Children learn from their parents, and thats about it. This is usually limited to reading and writing and some basic maths followed by the skills of a trade.

Currency
Namira is known to have and accept nearly any form of gold, silver or copper currency. They trade so much that one might find any number of differing coins. Trade instead goes by weight rather than by nationality. I'll trade you this much lumber for this many pounds of gold. Scales and weight are what win the day in Namira.
Legislative Body
The Exchange makes the laws in Namira, again all made so that business continues unabated.
Judicial Body
The Exchange appoints judges to see that laws are carried out evenly. These men and women are held separate from the business and once appointed can't be removed unless found guilty of a crime. This makes sure that no one is above the law, no matter how good they are for business. Not out of any sense of justice, but rather knowing that the workers will not obey if they think management is exempt, leading to worker revolts and riots. No one is worth the long term safety of the region.
Executive Body
The Exchange hires warriors to enforce the laws, called the Enforcers. They are largely a band of mercenaries for hire, but they have a good thing going with the Exchange so they do their job relentlessly and without pity.
