Alik'r - The Reign of Sindor (Sin-door)

The Reign of Sindor is the bastion of civilization on the continent of Alik'r, but it is on the edge of collapse. Pressed from the north by the Creeping Wastes, invaded from the south by the savage Leonin and trade routes routinely ravaged by Soletari pirates, this ancient kingdom is nearing its breaking point and the Radiant Throne is losing its grip on power.

Structure

Sindor is ruled by the Aestar Throne and its King, currently the half elf Dayson Galanodel. He is a cunning statesman and a noted swordmaster. The King's court meets in his castle of Flamespire in the capital of Elgrin Fau.   Beneath the King are his Wardens. The King has 3 Wardens, one of the Wood, one of the Sea and one of Shadow. Each is responsible for the protection of an area of the kingdom.   The next level beneath the Wardens are the King's Chancellors. These handle a variety of day to day business, including the Noble Council, a group of noble rank that handle many civil issues beneath the King's station.   Each city has a Great Lord or Lady, men and women who rule the city states in the name of the Aestar Throne. They are loyal to the King and Elgrin's Fau's authority. They pay taxes, give soldiers in times of war and answer the King's call whenever necessary.

Culture

Sindor's culture is traditionally feudalistic one, with lords and land owning nobles over the peasantry. This is why they see the tribal of the Creeping Wastes, the caste system of Soletar and the theocracy of Xian as so strange to them.

Assets

Sindor has 6 cities at their command, Elgrin Fau as its capital.

History

Sindor began as an elvin empire that predated the Breaking. Fractured and leaderless, Sindor came under the rule of the Radiant King, Erevan Galanodel who united the separate nations, established the Aestar Throne and founded Elgrin Fau. Every survivor for hundreds of miles came to help build the new City State, and in doing so the survivors helped establish a new Kingdom.   The newly forged realm began to expand, rebuilding two cities that fell during the Breaking, renaming them Saerlyn and Aerilon, the names of legendary pair of Phoenix from history. From there they branched out into the south with the city of Tarthel and then Aglonar. Another city was founded to the north east, Malizan. Finally the last two cities of Xynnar and Kymara to the far south east. This expansion took more than 600 years and it looked like the entire continent was destined to bow before the Aestar Throne.   The tenth King of Sindor, Malkane II, sent an expedition into the Creeping Wastes to approach the Maasai about an alliance and longstanding peace. This expedition went well, so well in fact that within 5 years Malkane's son, named Callan, married a Maasai woman, a chief's daughter named Hara. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, something went horribly wrong. Hara, pregnant with their child, leapt from the tallest tower of their castle, killing herself and their unborn child. This broke Callan, who lost his mind with grief.   Because of this perceived betrayal, the Maasai declared war on Sindor. They sacked Malizan, killing everyone who did not flee. Within the year, the Creeping swallowed the city, burying it in black sands. The Maasaikwar continued until King Maldane II was killed in battle. With his death, the war ended and the Maasai withdrew to their desert. To this day, no one is sure why the Princess killed herself or why the Maasai declared war. Some suggest it was a pretense to go to war years in the making, but the Maasai have never shown such machinations. Malkane's youngest son, Dayson, took the throne but much too young, only 11 years old at the time.   In the 35 years since, Dayson has done his best, but very little has gone well. Upon the death of the Malkane, Soletar was quick to invade the northern peninsula and sacked Searlyn and Aerilon. The Reign had to pay the Dai Shan off to leave, and when they did they nearly burned them to the ground. Their relationship since has been a coin flip from war ever since.   In the last 3 years, the Leonin of the Xian Islands have invaded the southern peninsula and conquered Kymara. Unlike Soletar, Xiani Leonin and Tabaxi seem more than happy to keep the southern port city, killing Sindorans as they continue their march for Elgrin Fau.

Demography and Population

Sindor is mostly a mix of human, elf and half elf. By this point the highest percentage is a mingling of the races followed by humans and then elves.

Territories

Sindor occupies the lands of western Alik'r.

Military

The King's army is the Dawn Knights. Dressed in silver and light blue, these knights are the bulk of the army. Infantry beneath them is called the Brethren Legions, and they are at the command of the Dawn Knights.

Technological Level

Sindor's technology level is around the industrial revolution. Artificers are a common profession among Sindorans and their advancements have leaked into even the most modest of homes. Factories and industrialization have begun, seeing the potential economic benefits as well as the benefits to the people to have steady work. Brick roads, electric lanterns and firearms are the norm now, rather than the exception.

Religion

The Church of the Light and the House of the Creator are both welcomed in every town and city in Sindor. Goodly outsider worship is largely accepted as well. Neutral outsider worship is ignored so long as they keep to themselves and obey the common law. Any form of fiend worship or Shadow worship is outright illegal, resulting in arrest and often death.

Foreign Relations

Sindor has poor foreign relations with its closest neighbors. The Maasai ravaged the kingdom and killed their king 35 years ago, Soletar used this weakness to invade and the Xian Leonin are currently invading from the south. The only powers they have good relations with are the traders from Highrock and Namira as well as the few who make the trip from Illyria.

Education

Sindor promotes education strongly. The average Sindoran is educated to the age of 15, at which time they are expected to take apprenticeship in a craft or trade of their choosing. Even these apprenticeships are paid for by the crown, trying to make the most useful citizens they can.

Legislative Body
The King makes the law, officially, even those drafted and written by the Noble Council require the King's signature to be made into law.
Judicial Body
The official interpretation of the King's Law is done by the Courts. There are three levels of Courts, each holding authority over more and more serious crimes.   The lowest is the Street Courts, and these are done in the literal street outside guard posts. They handle misdemeanors and fines, nothing serious or anything that requires jail time. The next level are the Common Courts, and these handle middle rank crimes such as theft, assault and murder or lowborn. Almost all these represent at least some jail time, many even punishable by death. The last is the High Court, and this is done before the King himself as your judge, jury and potentially executioner. These are high profile crimes or those committed by the noble class. When finished, the King announces their findings and the punishments are usually death, but sometimes more creative and potentially humiliating.
Executive Body
The laws are enforced by the King's soldiers called the Dawn Knights. Dawn are bonded knights of the Aestar Throne and are stationed in every city. Well trained and well equipped, they are in command of local city guardsmen and able to root out corruption in exchange for honors bestowed by the King himself.
