Crew Captain

The one who leads you through the Wastes

Qualifications

Anyone can be a crew captain and there is no formal training required. However, because the captain is ultimately responsible for the survival and well-being of the crew and the crew must choose to follow/promote someone to crew captain, most have years of experience being on a crew. They usually have to have strong people skills and a commanding presence, but not always. They may or may not own their ship or Sadi.

Appointment

Crew members must agree through an election to follow a particular crew captain. This can either be done informally or formally depending on the crew size and if the captain is responsible for multiple vehicles (like a fleet).

Duties

"When you are out in the Wastes, exposed to the surface elements and whims of Nalago, who you chose for Crew Captain becomes a life and death decision." --Retired Explorer Max Jamison
Captains are responsible for organizing and maintaining the crew and the vehicle. They are also responsible for maintaining communication between Sadi, crews, and tribes. It is important that they report encounters and events from the travels at tribe meetings, charging stations, and any settlements they come across. They don't have to know everything and while the specialized crews of Guardians are the main upholders of the Accords across the Numabian tribes, crew captains are also obligated to help uphold the Accords.

Responsibilities

This depends upon the crew. Numabian tribes can be as small as an individual crew, in which case the captain acts like the headsperson. They can also be merchant vessels, so their responsibilities would have to do with lining up transport and cargo jobs and ensuring those jobs get completed. The specialized crew of Guardians would have more responsibilities related to finding tribes and people to check on their welfare and provide aid.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Captains can be stripped of rank by an election with a no confidence vote. This is usually only considered mutiny by the outgoing captain. Captains that disregard the safety of their crew, abuse their power, attack another crew, break the Accords, or fail to uphold rules of hospitality are liable to lose their position.
