Danacia is a barony in northwestern Thruun bordering
The Black Moors to the east,
Taldain to the north, and
Gerund and
Olmund to the south. The barony is infamous for its unusual funeral practices and use of unintelligent undead as unskilled labor.
History
During the Age of Chaos, an order of vampires known as
The Bloodlet Covenant ruled Danacia and threatened the surrounding lands until a group of heroes killed the vampire baron Dealus the Black and forced the vampires back into the Black Moors. After 3 thousand years of peace, the vampires of the Bloodlet Throne magically expanded the Black Moors, enveloping a large portion of eastern Danacia in dangerous swampland.
Geography
Danacia's climate is dreary and overcast due to its close proximity to the humidity of the Black Moors. Light rain and grey skies are the norm throughout the region. The Quaren river cuts through the entire barony from the
Kol-Quaren mountains, splitting the entire province in two. Despite the swamps to the east, the roads of Danacia are relatively safe and often traveled, however, venturing off the beaten path invites danger. The Quaren forest that dominates much of the region is home to all manner of dangerous beasts, and shrines to undead gods like
Orazkus dot the landscape.
Economy
The villages of Danacia are small hamlets compared to the settlements of its neighbors to the north. many are logging towns like Woodwall and Deepwater, while most export whatever will grow in the inhospitable climate, mostly potatoes and root vegetables. Its relative economic success can be attributed to the fact that much of the labor force in the province is supplemented by undead animated by court appointed necromancers to harvest the lumber and till the fields. These necromancers and their financiers rake in profits, while the farm and mill owners are happy to expand their enterprises. The villager's moods tend to contrast the province's bleak weather as a result.
Government
Aegean Damos currently holds the title of Baron of Danacia. A highly respected man, Baron Damos is famous for his shrewd diplomatic expertise and fair judgment. He rules the province from the capital city of Danacia Keep where he lives with his wife and three children Ingrid, Helena, and Edmund, the heir to the throne. Under his rule the barony's border with the Black Moors has been well defended by an elite guard known as the White Rangers, and Baron Damos has branded the Bloodlet Covenant traitors to the realm.
