Magic Items

Magic Items, more commonly known as "Relics" in Threa, are relatively uncommon. It is well known that they exist, but most known Relics are in the possession of the Tol Maran. Those that exist outside of Maloglash are usually well protected family heirlooms or lost in ruins predating the Netherzine War. The Tol Maran actively seek to gain control over all Relics, and lay claim that all Relics belong to the Tol Maran. Not all recognize this claim, of course, but most nations at least make an attempt to appear to.    The art of creating Relics has long passed. Herbalists and Alchemists can creation potions and elixirs, and many Tol Maran can create magical scrolls by creating an ink using the dust of ground nethergems, but none in recent time has been able to create any type of permanent enchantment.   Tol Maran scholars have, however, discovered that all the magic of Relics is held inside Nethergems or Netherdust. Most Relics have these gems worked into their design, making their status obvious, though some have the gems hidden inside the construction (such as a figurine crafted around a small gem), or have nethergem dust mixed into the metal (though this creates a noticeable sheen). Through testing, they've confirmed that the enchantment follows the gem itself - and though difficult, the enchanted gems can be removed from whatever item they were crafted into and worked into a new, similar item to transfer its effects. Sometimes these enhancements work in concert, and other times they interfere with each other.   In game terms, most magic enchantments can be transferred from one item to another of the same type (ie, weapon to weapon, boots to boots, etc). Whether or not bonuses will stack will depend on the type of enhancement and your parties level etc. Essentially I'll just ensure balance. This will allow you to continue to use whatever kind of weapon or armor you like without sacrificing magical effects which are somewhat important to the balance of 5th edition.
