Libertalia

"Before you were to dock there ship they should take note of which banner is raised upon the stone fortress above. 8 banners sit side by side, a boar on a red background raised above the others indicating which of the Pirate Lords is currently residing. Check your notes to see how they govern the city, each Lord brings his own personality to the city. The boar belongs to Hakk Hogwrath, a gluttonous beast, rumors speak of his stockpile of meat and the amount of people that disappear during his stay, best for the crew to keep together."   Libertalia started as a hunters playground for dangerous game and sprawled into a large shanty town under the domain of a union of pirates. The docks, which sprawl along the bay, lead straight into the heart of commerce just off the sandy beach. Overlooking all is a tall rocky outcrop, where the Pirate Lords reside. The market front is a place where travelers quickly put up tents with the hopes to sell off their wares and take off. Most of the goods are either stolen or leftovers from a previous ventures. It will probably be the most affordable purchase, because of their haste.   Beyond the beach front, just as the jungle begins are where the more serious traders are. The air thick with incenses, spices, and the smell of the nearby swamp. More long term structures are here, normally having small residences attached in various ways. A tavern can also be found, where people clamor for music and merriment. Along the pathways peddlers draw in customers displaying animals and prized wares ranging from pottery, furs, jewelry, and weapons. Hunters that brave the eastern swamp sell scaly skins and large bones from their hunting ventures. This is a good area to look for sailors or laborers, which could be found in between jobs.   Farther into the jungle is where one would find more immoral products. Under the dense, shadowy trees, paper lanterns guide travelers towards drug dens, dark crafts, and slave huts. The smell of various elixirs and smoke caught in the breezeless narrow. People come looking for a cure for a venomous bite, from one of the many insects in the jungle, and get caught up in the curiosities of this area. The merchants here are less willing to barter for their goods and people. One might also to be able to find an assassin or two around here. Pirate Lords venture in these parts only if they think crew members have been stolen by any of the slavers.   There is a path that leads around and up to the Pirate Lord fortress. Along this path is where an arena can be found. It is possible for an individual to find some fame from this pit. High stake gambling can be found here or one of the nearby taverns. Farther along this path more "noble" members of society can be found. A foot tall stone fence highlights the crossing into protected areas. A series of well guarded hunting cabins and minor manors can be found.

Government

There is no official government entity, but the island is under the ownership of the Pirate Lords. Different lords have different edicts while they are managing the island. Some may send their crew into the city to maintain some kind of stern authority among the traders. Most merchants that know the city often check the banners to see which Pirate Lord is currently residing before deciding to dock. There are times where the residing lord uses this time to take a break from sailing and holds up in the cliffs. This leads to vigilante mobs that deal punishments as they see fit.    It is a place of anarchy, there are no taxes, and people can construct buildings wherever they see fit. Sometimes a public effort is made to construct something that may be needed, otherwise everyone is left to their won devices.

Defences

The outcrop which towers over the Libertalia was constructed into a fortress for the Pirate Lords to reside in. From here, they can keep an eye on the city and the surrounding waters. A stone harbor was built exclusively for the lords as a main entrance to the city. The harbor has baristas installed to prevent assaults.

Industry & Trade

The main reason one would come here is to browse illegal goods and stolen materials. This city stays a float by pirate crews bringing in their plunder. This plunder attracts merchants that might be looking for a quick easy purchase to be sold else where for profits. From there supporting facilities sprouted up. Entertainment, foods, and ship repairs have all found easy customers here.

Infrastructure

The docks have been constructed to help maintain order and visitors to the island, however the further down the bay you travel the more derelict they look. Wooden walls were constructed between the settlement and the swamp as a way to prevent creatures from wondering in. A few wells and some public ditches have also been installed to help keep the place somewhat sanitary.   Some individuals have made profitable shipyards, repairing and building ships.
