Lakanaka

Dwellers of what mainland Morgoth refers to as The Western Isles, The Lakanaka people are a wealthy bunch with a proud history. They reside on a chain of Islands that contain strong defensible fortifications, which have successfully deterred any incursions into their waters. It is said that their Sun God once lived on these islands and cared for them. Before ascending he blessed the island with hearty deposits of minerals: gold, iron, and gems. These deposits were longed after, but invasion attempts were always thwarted by turbulent tides and rocky coasts. Those the reached land always outnumbered by the native populations.    Now Lakanakian jewelry are sought after by royal families and wealthy elites. Such items are meant only for Lakanaka celebrations, but as trade opened to the eastern nations merchants would offer their entire stock just for a single piece. The Lakanaka people soon became aware of the demand for their jewelry. Rings, bracelets, medallions and more are offered by the skilled craftsmen of the islands. Often a sign of power and status, such distinction can be spotted on sight alone. The forging process includes a religious aspect as the Lakanakian people give praise to their god in the process. It is said that this gives the jewelry a luminous trait or an aura of awe. Appraisers can spot a fake on this quality alone within seconds of inspection.    These products are heavily protected by the King of the islands. The initial wave of profits were used to create a guild of diplomat merchants. This guild would be in charge of ensuring fair trade among the jewelers and foreign traders on the islands. The guild was also given the King's permission to travel to other nations. The goal of presenting customization works for a larger cost to rulers and high ranked merchants. These merchants also made sure to take note on the layout and structures within cities they visited. This information would be introduced to the King and soon the Lakanaka people entered a golden age. Wealth and knowledge began pouring into the kingdom.   The King wasted no time creating plans for updating his settlements. Engineers were hired abroad and began constructing public and military projects. In just under a generation, The Western Isles became a golden beacon in the sea. An ideal tourist location and high end merchant stop.
